Spotted Lake - Where, Why, and When?

in #travel8 years ago

Where is it located?

While exploring Canada last summer my friend advised me to see Spotted Lake. When we reached our destination, I was speechless – it was a unique natural formation. The Spotted Lake is located near the city of Osoyoos in British Columbia. It draws all visitors' attention from any part of the world.

Why so spotty?

This lake contains magnesium sulfate, calcium, silver and many other minerals. Half of the water evaporates in summer leaving numerous spots of these minerals. These spots may be white, yellow, blue and green depending on the mineral left behind. This lake is also considered to have healing powers. These salts were used in the manufacturing of explosives during World War I.

Spotted Lake belonged to the family of Ernest Smith, but the First Nations tribe purchased the land. Their aim was to preserve this place as a sacred healing area. Spotted Lake is a protected place nowadays and if you also want to see it, then you should follow the Highway. From there the view is just incredible and you can take excellent photos of it.

When to visit?

I am very grateful to my friend who advised and helped me to find out this amazing place. It really must be seen in order to be impressed. I advise you to visit this place before July, so that the pools won't dry up. To catch a glimpse of the lake you can also accept a tour offer of helicopter which is reasonably priced as well. So don't lose this chance if you're in Canada and admire these colorful spots!
