Last month I visited Bhopal city located in the central India. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there are as many as 5 public museums in the city representing different fields.
I was astonished by the fact that a couple, Shibani & Pradeep Ghosh, had founded a school completely based on the infrastructure of all these Museums. They had this innovative idea to empower underprivileged children from slums with practical education using the existing resources of public museums and interning teachers from B. Ed colleges. Thus no additional resources or funding was necessary from either the Government or the students.
The Museum School named Parvarish (Hindi word for “upbringing”) has groomed more than 2500 slum children since its foundation in 2005. Today the school has collaborations with 5 museums in Bhopal, 5 museums in Delhi, 1 museum in Bangalore, 3 museums in Chennai and 3 museums in Mumbai. This successful model has also been replicated in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.
This museum school won the prestigious Wenhui award of UNESCO in 2016. In 2017, it was also chosen for 100 ‘inspiring innovations in K12 education in the world’.
Here’s a 2 minute introductory musical video of this school by its founder Shibani Ghosh:
Museums are treasure house of immense knowledge along with being interesting through their presentation of exhibits. I’d like to share a few photographs from my visit to the Tribal Museum.
Every photograph has a story of its own and as it won't be possible for me to share everything here, I'd leave unto you to interpret and give some meaning to it. All pictures are so beautiful but I can't share it all here. You need to visit it once to understand the tribal culture, folklore and philosophy to see its relevance and give a deeper meaning to our own urban life.
Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum:
The museum is still under construction / extension phase. So you will find many more exhibits which I didn't see or I didn't posted photographs of, when you actually go there. There is also a live performance show on some week days, which shouldn't be missed I hope you enjoyed this virtual tour of Tribal Museum. .
