As a local born Hong Kong Chinese, I always welcome people from all over the world who wants to come to visit my city. However, I think it is better to share the following 5 things to any visitor or tourist who doesn't know anything about Hong Kong before their trip begins. Just fasten your seat beat and let us start this travel engine right now.
1. Hong Kong is a very busy and a fast moving city
I always make a joke about where I am living right now. "Walking slow in Hong Kong is a sin." Why do I say that. It simply means that we are living in a very small city but full of people and it is always overcrowded in most area of Hong Kong. especially during rush hours are so terrible to take any public transit. For example, we have to move extremely fast to avoid conflicts with each other in the subway and all MTR trains will be full of people and you can't hardly breathe at all.
People behind you will keep on pushing you to go forward without good manner and sometimes you will hear lots of abusive language just because people are so lack of patience in Hong Kong. Nobody wants to wait for anything but wants anything fast. That;s the number 1 fact that you really need to know before you come, then you will have a better preparation in terms of psychological situation.
2. Hong Kong is full of people from mainland China and recently lots of fake refugees from South Asia
Hong Kong used to be British colony for almost 100 years and had returned to the the China government control after 1997. Although Hong Kong is under a special administrative region which was controlled by "one nation , two system" under the Chinese government's rules known as the "basic law", Hong Kong still experience lots of difficulties due to the different background and historical factors with the mainland China culture. For example, we will line up for everything in our city but the people from mainland China didn't have such an habit. You will find people with a big luggage moving around the city and most of them ( of course not everyone )are people from mainland China. They will speak much louder than the people of Hong Kong as a whole. They will occupy all the seats inside the MTR trains for their own family members and won't allow anybody to sit on it and this action makes everyone in Hong Kong feel angry about it.
What about the South Asian ? By South Asian, we mean people from India , Pakistan, Vietnam and Nepal. Many of them are fake refugees (over 95%) and they were smuggled to Hong Kong and committed all kinds of crimes to make our city so terrible. They did nothing good to our city but just to take advantage from this city and even the police and the government got a hard time to deal with these people since they are protected by certain treaty by the United Nations. Whenever you passed by these people, you need to be highly alert or better to stay away from them. otherwise, you may be robbed by them or being harmed by them with all kinds of reasons.
3. Hong Kong is a great place for food
If you want to try good food in Asia, for sure Hong Kong is a good choice. (I wouldn't say the best because it really depends on your taste, that's why I think using "good choice" is fair enough) besides the food you have heard in your own country such as Won Ton Soup, B.B.Q.Duck and Spring Roll ( we never have anything called egg rolls as you have seen in those Chinese restaurants in your city. The egg rolls we have in Hong Kong is a kind of biscuits type of things and they are all sweet but we do have spring roll )We have many different kinds of cooking style in Hong Kong and Cantonese style, Shanghai style, Beijing style are among the most common cooking style in Hong Kong for Chinese food. In fact, if you don't like Chinese food, you can always try different kinds of cooking style from many other countries in Hong Kong since this city is an international well known city in East Asia, we do have cooking style such as Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Thai and western cooking style for food.

4. Hong Kong is good place for shopping
We have many great brands of products from all over the world. Whether it is cosmetics or clothing, you will always find it in Hong Kong. If you want to buy something very expensive, you will find it in this city. but if you want something cheaper , you can also find it in this place as well. You can also bargain for a better price in some districts where cheaper products will always be found in these place. district such as Sham Shui Pao, Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei are the 3 main districts where you can buy cheaper stuffs in Hong Kong. Thus, keep this in mind when you come to this place. By the way, I have to tell you the truth. most of or products are made in China whether the label on the products say it or not. so, be prepare for this fact. You could hardly find anything in Hong Kong are originally made in Hong Kong .

5. Hong Kong is a place where housing are very expensive
Since Hong Kong is only a small island plus another 2 pieces of land called Kowloon (Peninsula)and New Territories, but the population is over 7 million already and getting closer to 8 million each and everyday. High rise buildings are everywhere and the price is just going up and up each and every year. A small apartment with just 400 Square feet large already over 2-3 million HKD even in a cheaper district of the city. You can just find an apartment worth over 10 million anywhere in Hong Kong easily. Thus, the living standard in this city is very high and people with low income family status always find it very difficult to survive in this "pearl of the orient". At the same time, money will always be a major concern in this busy and high standard living city. You can finish using $1000 HKD in this city much faster than you can think of.
