Hello Steemians!
This is a place, that you might never come by. But, if you ever happen to see a horse walking home by itself, after a long day of work - you made it to Schela in Romania and you might feel sent back a hundred years in time.
I came to Schela due to my work and was touched by this village, populated by 3.500 people. Who live very simple and on one of the lowest ends of income in Europe. I met a very hard working woman and her three children and she allowed me to show her little home to all of you. Standing in her kitchen, the ceiling was only 20 centimetres above my head (and I am not tall at all). Here is her little empire.
And that is her with a bottle of liquor in her hands and a friend by her side. After she gave me an emotional interview about her situation they both had a little sip. It was 11:00 in the morning - nothing unusual in Romania at all.
A shop, a cafe and a market. These are the things you find in Schela. Only the main road is concreted and many people use their horses for transportation.
But the best thing in Schela are the fruits, I tasted the best plums and grapes I ever had. All natural, as the people I met kept mentioning and they truly grow in every garden.
There is literally nothing to do in Schela. People work in the fields or find work in other countries and work in shifts. One month working, one month living in Schela. Here are some more impressions.
And if you ever wonder how to get there...just follow the signs :)
Thank you so much for travelling with me!
And always dive a little deeper....
Wow! It's hard to imagine that people still live like this nowadays. For some it's a curse, for some a blessing.
Congratulations @whaledancemedia! You received a personal award!
