- free boat trip
- Brazilian bbq with Chilean people who made me change my trip itinerary
- watching orcas
- another surf classes
- almost broken finger and a visit at the hospital
This is less or more how my last week looked like at the hostel. Due to Brazilian winter holidays, the hostel got quite full, which of course means a bit more of work, but first of all it means new people and new friendships.
It all started last Tuesday when we started partying every day, having barbecue or going out to the club to celebrate Diana's birthday - one of our guests. We also went all together for a boat trip around Cabo Frio beaches which me and Joana got for free (volunteering perks).
Another night we also had a bbq at the hostel. We were dancing forró, samba and funk until 2 am... And I loved it!
During the bbq we were also hosting group of Chilean tourists. They were such open and kind people, so they made me change my trip itinerary - but of course it all still depends on money and how much time I have. Anyway I got invitation to Santiago, this place seems a bit too much on the south if I want to go up afterwards, but I am thinking of going from Paraguay to Atacama desert through north of Argentina, and then I would go from Chile to Bolivia and follow my first plan from there. Seems like a good plan especially that I will feel much safer hitchhiking in Argentina than in Paraguay or Bolivia, so I might save more money there.
On the weekend me, Joana and Xoel - our guest from Galicia, Spain, went all together again to Arraial do Cabo, again to watch orcas. But this time it worked and we've seen them ! I don't have any photos either videos as it all happened so fast and seriously, I was so shocked that I didn't even think about taking photos at the first place. So we spent the afternoon watching orcas, sunset at the beach... what a beautiful life!
And then I started thinking how lucky I am with all the things I can do here! Back in Cracow I would be going back from work in a crowded public transport to watch Netflix at home but here I am in Brazil, going to watch orcas after my work or going to surf classes.
But unfortunately my surf classes will have to end sooner than I wanted as I hurt my finger pretty seriously... During last surf class I wasn't holding my surf board in a proper way - so when the wave came, my finger got bent...
The following day I went to hospital, got X-ray and thanks God it's not broken! But unfortunately I probably won't be able to do another surf classes for the next 2-3 weeks...
By the way, all the diagnosis I got yesterday was completely free of charge. Public hospitals here in Brazil are free, even for foreigners, and even tho Brazilians say that usually you have to wait a long time in the line, I cannot complain - after 1,5 hour I left hospital already with my X-ray done and diagnosis.
So now as it's been over a month as I am traveling, and here is a little summary:
- I travelled around 2300 kilometres
- my purse with money and national ID got stolen
- I've seen orcas
- I got a volunteering job at the hostel
- I learnt a bit of forró
- I caught some pretty good waves during surf classes (pretty good as for the beginner)
- my Portuguese got much better
- I cracked my phone's screen
- I almost broke my finger and visited a hospital
- I met thousand amazing people
Like to read about your adventures, thanks!
How hard is it to replace an id over there?
Thanks god it was only national ID and not my passport so I actually do not need to replace it now as I still have my most important document here. And the ID i can only get a new one once I got back to my country unfortunately
hope your finger heal well @wandering-girl amazing place greetings from Aruba
Thank you!! It's already much better, it's just a pity I cannot finish my surf classes here :(
