Snowpocalypse!

Hi Steemit! I'm so excited to share our experience of what can only be described as the SNOWPOCALYPSE with you all ... I hope you enjoy! First of all, all these are taken on my phone... the one time I leave my DSLR at home (typical!)

Earlier this year we were in America for a conference when we woke up one morning to a HUGE amount of snow!! In Portland, Oregon apparently it doesn't snow that often... and definitely not this much!! I of course was thrilled!!

We couldn't WAIT to go outside with our cameras and explore! We hadn't exactly packed the right clothes for a snowpocalypse though, so got very cold very quickly, but it didn't put us off!! The whole street we were staying on was so quiet and peaceful, everything was covered in so much snow, which almost all came overnight! It was amazing to see no cars go up the streets and just people out playing like us!

I even made my own chair out of snow! It was crazy, the only other place we had seen this much snow was in Whistler, Canada! We didn't expect to see this much in Oregon, but we weren't complaining!

The trees were SO pretty! It looked like a magical forest, all lit up!

We did though, unfortuneately have to venture out as we were due to leave our Airbandb that day, so we called an Uber and luckily one came to pick us up... a massive truck with chains on it's wheels! Surely this would do the job?? Here is a video from the truck as we drove through Portland...

On the drive over we saw a jet ski on the motorway, that's right a JET SKI doing 70MPH on the motorway!! Craziness, we did also see lots of fallen trees like this one :

It really was not the best day to be driving at all. Although our Uber was a huge truck with chains it didn't make it half way to where we needed to be and we had to turn round. As much as it was a pain I actually, secretly, was loving the tour of this amazing city with all the snow!! It gave us a backseat view of all the amazing sights, including people skiing down the roads!

All the lanes leading to homes where so pretty, it looked like a fairytale! You could have almost imagined you were in Iceland or somewhere waiting for Reindeer to cross in front of you!

We had gone over this bridge which overlooked the city and it looked so great! I couldn't quite tell if the river was frozen but it sure must have been close! The Uber drivers were so friendly and were telling us how it was the most snow Portland had had in DECADES! We felt so lucky to have experienced it!

Slowly the snow melted and as we stayed in the city ready for our conference the blue skies came out and against the buildings in Portland the snow just glistened... perfection! I hope you've all enjoyed my post! Look forward to sharing more soon!

Ahhh, the memories!

Portland had two crazy snowfalls that season... We were away for the first one and on the second one my partner had to fly to Vancouver BC for a meeting... she left at 2pm - no snow... came back around 9pm and the plane couldn't land... it got to like 8 feet from the runway and pulled up and went back to Canada. She came back the next day to snowy icy chaos! I was working from home in the Pearl, and spent the way watching people ski in the streets and kids playing with sleds and I was so jealous.

Hopefully we get some decent snow again this season.

It was crazy wasn't it! I remember seeing loads of flights cancelled in and out so it mush have been a nightmare! Shame you couldn't get out and have fun it it, I would have been so jealous watching everyone too! Hope you get another snow season this year and can enjoy it properly!!
