Travel with Vinny#4: Arrival to Europe and preparation!

in #travel7 years ago

Hey guys,

I haven't write in a pretty long time as I was fairly busy road tripping threw Europe. I am currently in Germany but this article is going to be about my arrival in the UK and the beginning of what is going to be a long and fantastic adventure.

My friend Sam and me planned this trip for quiet a few years now and finally just made it happen. We both acquired a visa to legally work in the Uk for 2 years ( I will explain exactly how you can do the same in an other article) but are now both on our way to see my girlfriend to Sweden. Work can wait, my girlfriend can't. Me neither really. I am really excited to go and see her fro the first time in her hometown after a month of being separated.

After our trip to Sweden, we will be heading to Greece to volunteer at an animal shelter, so stay tuned, the adventure is only starting! We are going to completely cross the continent.

The first thing I did on my arrival to the Gatwick airport, was to take a bus to the Heathrow airport because we didn't realize that we booked flights that were landing at different airports. Starting this trip throwing 25 pounds in the garbage.

Once both of us airheads were reunited again for a new adventure, we took an Uber to Wembly where I booked a cheap airbnb for 3 nights.

After recharging there on the first day, we figured we would need a UK sim card so we could do phone calls, have data and all the usual phone stuff like not getting lost while driving getting saved by our GPS.

After trying every beers on tap at the pub, we decided that it would be preferable to go back too sleep to recharge a bit more for what was coming.

The next day, we grabbed a few beers while hanging out with a cat that climbed to the third floor and jumped inside the apartment, and started looking at planes to Sweden and realized that unless you book your flights in advance, flights are really expensive. 2 days in advance= 230 pounds. Same flight in a month = 17 pounds.

After doing all our tipsy math and admitting that we were not the kind of people with a plan, we figured that the cheapest way to get around would be to have our own car.

We found the perfect car on gum tree so we started to call some insurance companies and that turned into a complete nightmare! One company was charging me 7000 pounds for the year! And then my friend manage to find one that would charge him 490 pounds for 6 months! So if you live in the UK, or planning to visit and buy a car, call numerous companies or you will get ripped off!

We purchased the car with the plan of building a bed in it while we are at my girlfriend place in Sweden.
Once our 3 days at the airbnb was done, we went to or mate place for 2 days and decided that we were ready to start our journey to Sweden!

That is all we did in the UK, but don't worry, we know there is much more to do and see there and planning to do all that once we are back to work!
