A little bit further there is a really nice park with a music pavilion. I like this. It is a place where an orchestra would play and people gather in the evenings to listen to classical music.
And here we come to the Ancient Roman ruins. It is the only uncovered part, a very tiny one, even though the whole town has been built upon acres and acres of a remarkable Roman settlement. Here they are.
And another part.
A different angle.
Another area.
A column base?
The bricks are there to protect the ruins or they are a part of the ruins? Couldn't find out but it is very probable.
They should really go to work and dig out the ruins from all this unused space, clear the mud and create an awesome tourist attraction.
The lady I spoke to told me the reason behind the 'industrial heritage' display from the previous post. It's dictated by daily politics. There is a huge petrol rafinery in the town that is not doing so well. The appaling 'industrial heritage' is the town's officials way to say they'll not let it close down because this is 'industrial town' from forever. Well, alright...
She also added that when there are any sorts of public works going on, the ones that require digging, when the workers uncover the ruins everyone turns their head away and continue just like nothing happened. It's because the official archeological procedure would not let them do whatever they are supposed to do. So it seems that ordinary people are not much concerned about what's lying beneath. Locals are obviously unaware what is the real treasure of their hometown.
How would it be to transform this town into a beautiful tourist attraction instead of heavy industry pollutant? Helloo?!?

beutiful :)
it is, isn't it...
well if politic kicks in, things could go well or worse. but most of the time it is not go to what the common people think. don 't they?
i m afraid so. this has been an industrial town for the last 100 years... they live from it, so it's kind of understandable from their perspective, but so wrong from mine :)
