'Scuba Diving Thoughts on Narrow Roads'

crta.png

Super narrow local roads are something to generally avoid regarding safety and time spent in cleaning the motorcycle later on but if we're talking about the spirit of adventure and exploration, they almost cannot be matched. True, most of them end up abruptly or become too narrow to ride, sometimes hardly leaving space for turning the bike around properly.

It didn't happen just once to me to find myself in the mud. Holding 600 pounds of metal while realizing that the rear wheel just turns and turns without any friction, can be quite a nerve-wrecking experience, believe me. In those moments it best to use the old diving SBT technique when in trouble somewhere deep underwater: "Stop, breathe, think!" An interdisciplinary piece of wisdom, one could say. :D

I was quite an avid scuba diver (and freediver) with a serious number of dives in various conditions. I still hold all my 8-10 certificate cards and occasionally dive in summers. I've seen too many people get in serious trouble, some of them my friends and some that I've just met. Some were in hospitals, some ended in wheelchairs and some are dead. It makes you stop believing in all those commercial stories about how diving is all super honky-dory, 'let's have fun and see some turtles, dolphins and sunken ships' thing. It is quite dangerous, difficult, time and money consuming activity if you want to do it properly and with intermediate risk.

This is an example of how narrow roads often end, turning into a path that one cannot ride if the ground is soft. Unfortunately, this appears to be the way to the old fortress on top of the hill. I guess that's also out for today. I wonder why a road was never built? It could be a tourist attraction.

There is still fresh air and a stretch of road ahead of me. Why dwell on anything that wasn't meant to be, when there are so many things ahead of us? I always keep in mind that the pleasure is not to be derived from what might have happened or what might happen sometime in the future but only from what is happening right now. And that would be parking the bike and inspecting these beehives up close... :-)

Enjoy your day! :-)

I really love the way you travel on bike.
Can you please tell me what is your longest time you have traveled on bike?

Hi @velimir
Thanks for sharing your travel diary in a distinct style. It is refreshing to read that you bring cross disciplinary scenario of motor biking and scuba. I remember doing my maiden scuba diving in Maldives several years ago and I must tell you that it is not my cup of tea. 10 meters down the surface, i suffocated, panicked and wanted to call it a quit.

My diver instructor friend teases me me till this day for my "chickening out." and chances are he will haunt me for all my life. But one thing I learnt that day is that every one has limitations. I had mine.

So yeah I believe when you said that people can get injured and hospitalized from badly done Scuba trip.

One the subject of my absolute love, the motorcycle ride. I have been a biker since I was 12 years old. I love to ride country roads that lead to small settlements and off the beaten tracks. Someday you should ride motorcycle in Nepal. You will love it.

Thank you very much for your upvote @velimir. I appreciate it very much.

Bike riding is really a passionate job. I love the way you make a story of journey both with your photos and writing. But i have an offer for you travel to Kashmir and Ladakh and you will have one of the amazing motorcycle diaries to write down and you will experience one of the narrowest bike roads you will ever see in your life.

Well, riding roads like that have the benefit of taking risks, a thing that makes life more interesting and spicy, while keeping them pretty trivial - the maximum damage would be some miserable hours of waiting for help taking the motorcycle out of the mud ;)

I never dived, but it does look like a fascinating and a bit dangerous world laying there under the water - do you have some seaside cities where you can dive? Here we have plenty of beaches so it's pretty easy to do it, but it takes some more adventurous spirit than I've got 😁
Those bee hives are pretty, that's awesome how we can cultivate the bees in a way that will allow us to use the honey - pretty lowtech but it does connect a person to his roots and to this earthly world, just like getting down the road from asphalt covered roads to leaves covered road - there is a great value to have contact to the earth from time to time.

I'll upvote for visibility :)

Hi @velimir
Having read everything, I would like to single out the most important (in my opinion) expression

I always keep in mind that the pleasure is not to be derived from what might have happened or what might happen sometime in the future but only from what is happening right now.

There is so much truth in these words. I find myself thinking that I often focus on the upcoming events and therefore I'm in a bit of a strain. It is important not to forget the main thing - you need to enjoy the moment, live in the present. I still need to work on myself :)

I was previously involved in the collection of honey and took on the role of a beekeeper (temporarily). It will be interesting to see how you present these beehive :)

Have a nice day

You have a great heart for scaling these kinds of roads. And with your bike shown in the picture, I accept that it might be a pain touring these roads.
Anyway, I'm a bike lover too and tour a lot in remote parts of Nepal.
I totally understand the passion and appreciate your travel blogs.

If you get a chance, I would like to welcome you join us in Nepal for heart stopping roads and astonishing experience as a Rider.

"Stop, breathe, think!"

When in a stressful situation the person might get confused and...

"Stop breathing and drink!"

Wow!! Nice ride dude... I like your travel photo on bike...

None of them is a nice picture of retro style. Anyway, you used to be a skew bar long time ago.
It is a nice way to live ♪

We never get to know what lies ahead of us most times until too late. It's the same with riding.

I love your travel captures. I've missed them for quite sometime (I took a break).

About diving.

I'm meeting a Navy SEAL recruiter later this year. Although diving (swimming in the general sense) has never been my thing, it's time I got past it cause the path I've chosen requires much of it. I get cold easily under water or if I come out of it for a short time, it's something I'm trying to train away and I hope when I begin swimming in frozen waters it'll pass. I hope to become a master diver and rescue swimmer someday.

Wow!! Nice ride dude...

please help me @velimir i am new steemit member
