Travel Tip #2 - The HORROR of lost luggage...the IMPORTANCE of packing right!

in #travel7 years ago

Your flight just landed and you can't wait to get your vacation started! You have successfully gone through immigration and have arrived at the crowded luggage carousel along with the other anxious passengers.

The first bags start to drop off...

One by one people excitedly pick up their bags knowing that their vacation is just around the corner. You continuously have high hopes that the next bag is going to be yours.

*...hours later...*

Reality hits...you realize that the crowd has tapered off and no new bags are being added to the carousel...feeling of devastation overwhelms you. "What do I do now?! All my stuff is my luggage! How am I suppose to get on with my vacation?"

How many people have had their luggage lost or delayed?

Here are some important tips to get you through these situations:

1. Go the airline counter and file a report ASAP! (See what expenses they will cover)
2. Contact your travel insurance company, find out the details of your coverage
3. Keep all your receipts!

Most luggage is returned within 48 hours to the passenger. So you can be rest assured, that it will eventually reach your destination. (Cite: http://articles.latimes.com/2014/apr/06/business/la-fi-travel-briefcase-20140407)

However, what are you suppose to do for those 48 hours?

This is the MOST important point: Pack ALL your necessities on your carry on!!!
- change of clothes (especially, undergarments)
- toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, face wash, deodorant, make up remover, moisturizer, etc.*)
*Note: Make sure all liquids are less than 100mL (3.4 ounces) and fit in a ziplock bag.
- bathing suit, if you are going to a sun destination (why not relax by the beach while you wait for you bag ;) )

I cannot stress this enough. I promise this will fit in your carry on and cut your stress in half.

Remember, most airlines allow you to bring one carry on and one personal bag. Please take use of this.
