Dubai old quarter is the best place to experience what Dubai was like before its rapid growth. Dubai started off as a village of fishermen built on the creek. You can learn more about Dubai and its traditions by visiting this quarter. The Historical quarter is called Al Bastakiya and was established by merchants in the 19th century. Here you can find museums, art galleries and retailers. A great way to arrive here is by boat on a Abra which is well used by the locals it costs 1 AED to travel across the creek.
Old Dubai contains 2 famous souks the gold souk and the spice souk. The colors and smells of the spice souk are amazing and something that everyone visiting Dubai should experience. the spice souk is open from 10am till 10pm so plenty of time for shopping. The gold souk has 379 retailers and its not only gold shops but jewellery sellers also. It was estimated that there is 10 tons of gold at any given time in the market. Prices are not fixed and your expected to barter to get the best price.
