During my 2 month stay in Madrid, I visited Retiro park numerous times. This massive park which literally translates to "retirement park", was built for the entertainment of the Spanish Monarchy in 1680, and was not opened to the public until the late 19th century. This is the back of the Monumento a Alfonso XII de España, and the center piece was covered by scaffolding for the entirety of my stay, so I feel very lucky that the scaffolding was gone the last time I visited! ~Thank you~
