Climbing Lions Head, Cape Town + 300 Followers 🎉

in #travel7 years ago

At an elevation of 669m (2,194 feet) Lions Head offers incredible views across Cape Town.  You start the hike at Signal Hill so you’re already pretty high when you start.

It was a lot easier than it looked but still a bit challenging. It gets to a point where you have to use the ladders and chains to pull yourself up and over rocks.

It was a couple hours round trip but the view from the top is unreal-sitting up top and admiring it was incredible. We stayed up there for ages!

It was also super calm and warm which is not what I was expecting. Must be in a random calm pocket, protected from the wind. The helicopters were buzzing around a little under this height so if you climb it you’ll get the same view!

Here are a few cool facts about Lions Head-

♣ You can paraglide off the side

♣     Lions once did roam the area

♣ In 1878 records show snow fell on the top!

♣ Locals hike to the top for the full moon. I imagine coming down would be pretty tricky!

We also came up Signal hill almost every night for the sunset, which is pretty magic. I just love this city and all its beauty!
