Hi Steemit friends,
After Arriving to Osaka, we decided to take a train to Kyoto which take approximately 1 hour to the beautiful “Kiyomizu Temple”
This is called “Ema” or Wooden Wishing Plaques In recent days people write their wishes or prayers on a wooden plaque that can be purchased at the shrine and then hang it up on the shrine grounds. They say that the gods will listen to their prayers and fulfill wishes.I saw people from all around the world were writing and hanging these. It is very common for temples all around Japan to have this.
The temple is located up on the mountain. Alongside of the walk path to the temples are cute local shops and restaurants. Selling crafts and souvenirs that is need to tourist. It is summer now in Japan so it was pretty warm and humid. Make sure you bring a fan !, I bought mine at a local shop.
Kiyomizudera (清水寺, literally "Pure Water Temple") is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the wooded hills east of Kyoto, and derives its name from the fall's pure waters.
The Otowa Waterfall is located at the base of Kiyomizudera's main hall. Its waters are divided into three separate streams, and visitors use cups attached to long poles to drink from them. Each stream's water is said to have a different benefit, namely to cause longevity, success at school and a fortunate love life.
Kiyomizudera is best known for its wooden stage that juts out from its main hall, 13 meters above the hillside below. The stage affords visitors a nice view of the numerous cherry and maple trees below.
The walk up is quite far but so worth it when you reach the top. You'll see the whole city view. I have been told that in different seasons the view is beautiful in its own style.
The access fee for the temple is 300 Yen.
This is my favorite spot !!
Behind the main hall is Jishu Shrine, which is a shrine worshipping the deity of love. There are two love stones at the shrine, and finding your way from one to the other with your eyes closed means you will be lucky in love. ><
Kiyomizudera can be reached from Kyoto Station by bus number 100 or 206 (15 minutes, 230 yen). Get off at Gojo-zaka or Kiyomizu-michi bus stop, from where it is a ten minute uphill walk to the temple. Alternatively, Kiyomizudera is about a 20 minute walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station along the Keihan Railway Line.
Here is the Map of the Temple.
Apart from awesome food and great shopping, Japan offers beautiful cultural sites. The Kiyomizudera Temple is consider one of the world's heritage. So if you ever have the chance to visit here, it's worth spending your time. I love the meaning and stories for each of the symbolic items.
I'm definitely looking forward to explore more during my time here.
