Top 3 Travel Tips For Dating While Traveling
Finding Love or Lust Abroad
Traveling this great big world solo doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t still on the hunt for love and what would make a better story to tell your kids someday then how you and the love of your life met. Now finding prince charming really shouldn’t be the goal of your traveling adventures and it’s not all that common, being a nomad can make it harder to find the one but that doesn't mean it's impossible or that you can't just have a bit of fun in the meantime. I personally know a few couples who met during their travels, one couple is now happily married, so in this article, I want to give my top 3 tips on how to date while traveling abroad.
1.Be Direct.
Being direct is the best policy when it comes to dating while traveling; when you are back at home you have time to play cat and mouse, flirt, dropping little hints in the hallways of your university, giving those seductive looks or glances during your office lunch breaks, you have time to build a report, text back and forth and drop messages of Facebook but when your traveling sometimes you only have a couple of days to let it be known that your interested in someone, so if you feel a spark or chemistry with someone it's better to be direct on how you feel before the moment passes, or the one you had your eye on is on the next plane or train to their next destination.
2.Live In The Moment.
Through my travels I’ve come across a few broken-hearted, who hung on the idea of finding their Mr. or Miss right in the beautiful countries of Southeast Asia or South America but Like I said being a nomad can have its downfalls and one of them is that the amazing people that you meet can be in and out of your life right in the middle of you falling head over heels for them and that can be hard sometimes. Some just shut down and decide they no longer want to make new friends because the goodbyes just get too hard but I encourage you not to shut down, instead just live in the moment and appreciate it for what it is. A lot of what traveling is, is made up of these amazing experiences one bleeding into another, a laugh, a sunset, a conversation that can change your life, just getting to know someone, you both bringing your walls down and revealing your souls to one another and just embracing that, just living in the moment and appreciating life in that moment with that person.
Don’t go into any travel flings or travel romances with any expectations, the people you meet abroad can become apart of your life forever or you may never see them again once their off to their next destination, so initially that's what you should expect and if anything else develops and evolves then that’s amazing, which again is possible but not always but there's nothing wrong with just cherishing that moment you have with someone even if your love story only makes it to one chapter, that doesn't mean it can still have a happy ending.
3.Be Safe
This should go without saying but be safe, a lot of times people tend to let their guard down on their travels, especially in a place like Thailand where people feel safe and secure but all the street smarts that your parents raised you with still has a part to play when it comes to keeping yourself out of danger and away from those who mean you harm. Use protection, it would be wise to bring any contraceptives with you on your travels, such as condoms, birth control, diagrams, etc. Do your research before you take that flight to see what kind of contraceptives or STD testing that’s offered in whatever country that your visiting, because sometimes in more conservative countries birth control and other STD prevention tools may be hard to come by if at all.
FYI: You can find contraceptives in most metro areas of Thailand and Malaysia, just go to a westernized pharmacy or hospital. STD testing is also available in most touristic areas of Thailand but may not be offered throughout all parts of Thailand.
Extra Tip: Make sure you secure good and reputable travel insurance for all your overseas medical needs.
I do look forward to the day I can explore this world with the one I love and respect but until then I’m going to continue to enjoy my solo travels and live in every moment that the days provide me.
