Guide To Lake Ashinoko

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

is a beautiful mountain lake that overlooks the torii gate of Mt. Fuji and the Hakone shrine.

The lake is part of the caldera of Hakone-yama which is still an active volcano. Because of the uplift of the lake itself, the view of Mt. Fuji includes peaks, but the base is not included. The lake is often covered in mist, and the scenery of Mt. Fuji requires relatively rare conditions. The time when Mt. Fuji is most likely to appear is at dusk or dawn.

Lake Ashi is comfortably undeveloped and surrounded by nature. There are several resort hotels and hot springs on the coast. On the coast there are Hakone Shrine, Hakone Isolated Palace, Hakone Town and Honkono Town.

Two separate companies are offering a popular boat tour at the lake. One company offers two large boats like a samurai fleet, which is often mistaken for a pirate ship. They are not historically accurate anyway.

Cruising offers services like ferry, traveling 70 minutes each way, about 35 minutes round trip. Small-scale operators also offer unpopular swan-shaped trains and paddle boat rentals.
