Traveling through Australia Part 3: Tasmania

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Introduction

For those who don't know: I'm doing a photo series of my 1-year backpacking trip through Australia. I focus more on photos than on text because I am more of a visual person myself :-). Just jumping in? Check out the previous parts:

Tasmania

About 250km South East of the coast of Australia, lies the island of Tasmania - or 'Tassie' as referred to by Australians :

About 40% of Tasmania is a protected natural environment. So needless to say: it's beautiful & amazing!

Wineglass Bay. A beautiful uphill walk (of about 1 - 2 hours depending on your fitness) takes you to this lookout over the bay.

Painted Cliffs on Maria Island. The island is accessible via a 30-minute boat ride.

Red cliffs everywhere along the East coast of Tasmania.

An echidna. It can only be found in Australia & New Guinea.

You can actually climb the mountain in the back, called Cradle Mountain. The walk is not easy (and takes about 6-8 hours return), but so worth it.

That would be me :-)

Our vehicle, which is also our home. We sleep in the back.

Red cliffs everywhere, and they're stunning!

Not a kangaroo but a wallaby!

Conclusion

Tasmania was one of my favorite destinations in Australia. The island has a lot to offer, from beautiful walks to exquisite food in the mountains. It's a small island, but you can easily get lost in mountains where nobody travels.

Well worth a visit if you are planning to go to Australia!
