Hi Fellow Steemians!
I'm @peterkkim96 and I've arrived in Portugal! So recently I've been wanting to go on my next adventure and I wanted to go somewhere different from the Eastern European countries that I've been at. So I searched online for some cheap flight tickets and I found Portugal as one of the options! What better place to go than a country with a great coast like Portugal to take a break from Eastern Europe right!
In this post I'll write about my journey here from Munich and go over what I did tonight. Hope you enjoy!
Munich to Nuremberg
So like always, since Munich is an expensive airport to fly from and there are none of the Ryanair flights that I am fond of, @kellykim and I went to Nuremberg via Flixbus to catch our flight. The bus ticket was around 8 euros and the trip was 2 hours long so it was a small price to pay for getting our flight for 18 euros.

The Flixbus that I got on
Nuremberg Central Station to the Airport
The trip from the central station to the airport only takes about 15min! What a great city to have an airport so close to their central district. Also, you only have to take one train making it even easier to get there. You just have to take the U2 line, but be sure to take the train that says Flughafen as its last stop because there are also trains that stop at the station just before the Airport.
Some random shots I took inside the station
The Subway that I had for a short lunch break
Tickets are 3.1 euros and you can catch the train from platform 4!
Nuremberg Airport
There was relatively little traffic at the airport so getting through the airport security took a short while. Also, getting to the security area is quick once you get off the train, all you have to do is go through the doors of the airport and walk through a doorway in the most right hand side and to your left will be the start of the security!
Entrance to the airport once you get off the train
Inside of Nuremberg Airport
Although our flight was on here the gate was called out on the loudspeaker and not on the screen :/
When we got past the security we heard our flight being called out and it was the same gate as last time, A09. It's only been two times that we have caught Ryanair at Nuremberg airport but I think A09 is the main gate that they depart from so if you're catching a flight with them from there it might be a good idea to stick around that gate. They also checked us in about 30-45min before flying so it was easy to board the flight and they also had their own waiting area just outside the gate!
intense connection with the plane
And off we go!
As always, Ryanair didn't have any delays and departed and arrived as planned :)
Arrived in Porto, Portugal!
Porto is one of two airports that Ryanair flies to in Portugal (The other one is Faro, which we will be leaving Portugal from). It was about 4pm when we landed and we arrived at our Airbnb at around 5:30pm. I'll go through how we got there, it was pretty easy actually.
Step 1: Go to the metro
Once you exit the arrival area, you have to go downstairs to catch the metro/light rail, there will be signs that point downwards and there are elevators or escalators that will take you down.
Once you go down you'll see a sign like this
Go through this gateway and you'll see the ticket machines
Step 2: Purchase a ticket
There are about 6 ticket machines once you get to the level right below the metro. THIS IS WHERE I MADE THE MISTAKE THAT I MENTIONED IN MY HEADING! The ticket that comes out of the machine is a rechargable ticket that is only usable by one person. Since I was traveling with @kellykim and I wanted two tickets, I selected "2" when it asked for the quantity. It turned out that the quantity was in regards to how many trips I wanted to charge. So basically I wasted 2 euros if I don't use public transport here :D
The box where you tap your ticket will look like this
But the card that you will use will most likely look like this
Step 3: Board the metro
From what I could see, every train from the airport will go into the city so you don't really have to choose what train to catch. Just be sure to look at where you would have to change trains (if you do) to get to where you want to. The platform where you will catch the train will be on your right once you go up the escalator next to the ticket machine. Also, DONT FORGET TO TAP YOUR CARD ON ONE OF THE CARD READERS! ALSO YOU HAVE TO TAP YOUR CARD AGAIN IF YOU CHANGE TRAINS OR GO ON A DIFFERENT MODE OF TRANSPORT!
For a metro stop I thought it was very pretty
Metro is here!
Dinner at Tapabento
The place we decided to go for dinner was Tapabento! It was a restaurant specialising in Seafood and Mediterranean/European cuisine and it had high reviews and recommendations on a lot of food sites (Hence why we chose to go there).
Here is the address if you want to check it out
Me agonising over the menu
We ordered the Razor clams (15 euro) and Thai fish and fresh seafood curry (20 euro).
Razor Clams: Tip! The sauce when you eat it with the bread is simply divine!
Thai Fish and Fresh Seafood Curry!
The curry comes with rice
Bonus food!
We purchased some egg tarts from here
I'd rate it a good 8.5/10 for deliciousness! Worth giving it a try!
Last of all, here are some pictures I took of Porto!
So far it's only been a night and I can see that Porto will be an extremely interesting place to check out. Be sure to tune in tomorrow to see what I do next!!!

Hope you are enjoying my hometown! Have a nice stay! ^^
I'm really enjoying it!
Excited to see what else there is to see.
Thanks for visiting and hope you have a nice day :)
You too have a nice day and thank you for visiting my city. ^^ By the way, there are some typical dishes from my city. While one includes some intestines and might not be your thing (it's called "tripas à moda do Porto"), another one is considered one of the best 10 sandwiches in the world and it's called "francesinha". Basically, it's 2 slices of bread with grilled cheese on top and several meats between them, with a magical special orange sauce that gives it it's special taste. XD If you wanna try it, ask for some advice at the hotel/hostel where you are at so they recommend you the best restaurants that serve it near your area. Cheers! ^^
A detailed travelog you have written up. Have a good time in Euro and safe trip. Do keep up posted on trip ahead.
