Tangier is a city that offers thousands of attractions.
Due to its proximity to the peninsula is the second time we went there and this time has left us with a better feelings. To arrive we decided to use the ferry that took us directly from Tarifa in only 35 minutes to the city center. Comfortable, cheap, fast and without delays as an airport.
What to do in Tangier?
Tangier is divided into two clearly differentiated parts, the Medina and the new city.
First of all, you should go to Plaza 9 de Abril, the epicenter of the city. Also popularly known as the Grand Souk. There is the emblematic "Cinema Rif".
It is a square, which has plenty of activity both day and night. It is also next to the Lorin Foundation Museum and a few minutes from the Jardins de la Mendoubia.
Plaza 9 de Abril is the gateway to the Medina. When you cross its emblematic arches you are ready to get lost in the crossroads of the Medina.
The best tip is to lose yourself in them, because in each corner you find some detail or special curiosity. It is the perfect place to buy handicrafts, fabrics, tea, Moroccan spices in addition to any natural product such as Argan Oil.
Afterwards, you can stroll along Boulevard Pasteur, one of the most important points of the new area of Tangier.
You can reach it from the Grand Souk by going up the Rue de la Liberté and arriving at the Place de France. In it you can find an important perfumery called Madini. It is characterized by its great variety of scents of perfumes such as rose, jasmine, bergamot, gardenia and their perfumes created by them special mixtures such as Alma de Alma, Maderas de Oriente ... etc. You also have a list that you can choose perfumes from large international firms for only 50 Dirham (just under 5 Euros)
The caves of Hercules is one of the most important tourist attractions around this city. It is only 14 km from the city center, approximately 20 minutes by car. To get there, we choosed for a taxi, it´s a must to deal the price. If there is something that characterizes the Moroccan character is the negotiation of prices, for this sometimes you have to leave the shame out and begin to be part of the game. It gets to be fun!
Right next door, you have another typical Moroccan attraction. You have the option to ride Camel and take a lovely walk along the beach.
And of course, could not miss the Cafe Hafa, a cafe founded in 1921, located at the Atlantic Ocean where you can see how the ocean is lost on the horizon. It is a quiet place where the Tanger people go to take the classic Moorish tea.
