All good things come to an end, and it's time to go back home. Leaving with Gent in my heart, though: such an amazing gem!
All the stunning churches, buildings, canals and bridges make for a rather photogenic city, although I do want to see these photos on a big screen, since some look great on a smartphone screen but then you see them on a big screen... and off to the recycle bin!
Crossing fingers for some good photos, because I do want to make a decent post about this city. And in the meanwhile, I'm sharing some of the little pearls, while soaking all that happened this week: having spent the week with some of the best in the world on this area of my work does humble you. It's also a huge incentive to keep learning and growing. And how great it is to learn in places like this?
There are worse places to listen to lectures, right?
More things that happened this week: I ate more gauffres than probably in the last 5 years! 🤣 But man, they were good: plain, with chocolate, with maple syrup, I've tried them all.
In the category "more in this week than in the last five years", this one is also featured:
Yep, I do drink beer occasionally, but can't say I'm a beer fan. Nevertheless, I've tried this Kriek, and fell in love with it. I think I had it everyday! Crossing fingers that it finds its way to Portugal... or maybe we have it and I don't know yet?
More things that I've learned: belgians know how to throw a party! The congress dinner was superbly organized, in order to make us mingle and meet more people... and let's just say, there might have been a little to much alcohol involved.
And they also have a good sense of humour: this is likely the best advertising sign I've seen in a long time! 😁
You can see why this was an awesome week, right? Meeting a new country, and amazing people, with all these little details in between: bliss. And as usual, before leaving, sending some love to friends back home, hoping these reach their destination:
It's been a ton of fun, but as the title says, it's time to wrap it up. See you soon, Portugal!
Glad you enjoyed your stay in Belgium!
Kriek is something typical Belgian, haven't seen it that often abroad. Although, I guess that if you really want, you can order it online, although it will cost rather much I guess.
I agree that Ghent is absolutely fantastic! Used to study there a couple of years :D
Lucky you! I imagine it's an awesome spot to study. Thanks for all the info, shout if you go to Portugal so I can return the favour! 😉 !BEER
Will do!
Been there a couple of years ago, to Lisboa, was a great citytrip! :D
Yaaaay!!! He was in Gent!
And kriek you can also order often as cherrry beer :)
Learned that pretty quickly! It was an intense week, but the congress even organized a walking and boat tour, so that together with some free time made it possible to get to know Gent decently. And as a plus our hotel was right in the center, pretty near Belfry. Loved this city!
A week even..that is decent indeed! How is the hivefest planning going ?:D
Still trying to see if I can make it work... would love to! Next weeks I should have it figured out.
Thanks a ton @ewkaw and @qurator!
Welcome back to Lisbon, my friend! 🎉 Hope to see you and Oscar here soon, as I'm in town this week and the next one. 🇵🇹😁
Those are great news! Looking forward to see you again; see you soon!
You had me at gauffres... lol looks like an amazing trip 🙂
It sure is; it was the cherry on top of a great week!
Thank you!
There’s no doubt that you enjoyed your time in Belgium
The pictures are very beautiful
Sure did, it was a great surprise!
Whenever we go to travel in this way within another city or within another country, many memories are stored inside our camera and when we are sad, we are happy again by seeing them.
