In the heart of Transylvania #4 - Castle Bran once the residence of Vlad the Impeller - Dracula

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Who does build castles today ? I suppose only children do it from sand.

The Bran Castle is one of the so amazing and mythical places that, when I pass close by, I only stop to the castle to admire, to enjoy the history and to dream and imagine what amazing stories have once happened there. When you are on the site, you connect with the energy that is placed there for so many centuries and you find your creativity higher then anywhere else. When I see it standing up there on the rocks it brings me a lot of questions about how it was built and how much of an effort the people who developed it were putting there. The tremendous look of power that the castle has, gives you the confidence, safety and protection feelings that you need.

Built in 1211 by the Teutons Knights , became the residence of Vlad the Impaller in 1459 who was the cruel lord of Wallachia, who brought justice to the country and to the ordinary people. Passed from lord to lord, the castle was offered to Queen Maria in 1920 by the citizens of Brasov, and the castle became then, the favorite residence of the Queen, due to which she has re-building the place and redecorates it in her own style as a royal place.

Along the years, constructions run over the place and close to the castle, a turbine power plant was built, which supplies electricity not only to the castle but also to the small villages from the area. Having 4 levels, the castle has its own elevator and a garden where a fountain that supplies the entire place with water, can be seen.

Today, during each August on the interior garden of the Bran Castle takes place the “Jazz at Bran Castle” festival, which gives another dimension the the visiting of the castle, the music dimension protected and reflected by the strong walls of the castle old by over 800 years now.

Nice place ! I visited last year.

Thank you Bogdan!

A well done article ! This is a national monument that we Romanian should be proud of. The Impeller was really a cruel lord who punished the merchants of who failed to abide.
