Alisadr Water Caves in Iran

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Alisadr water cave is one of the most impressive water cave in the world. When you see the pictures you will also agree to it....
It was almost an 8 hour drive from the town of Lahijan which was our previous halt and the closest one to reach Alisadr, but it was all worth it. We planned to visit the caves in the evening we reached but we landed up a bit late and hence we had to visit it the following morning.

I will say Iran is a beautiful country, The landscapes are breadth taking I will be sharing more of Iran pictures in my future blogs.

As per the geological experts Alisadr water cave is one of the most unique and the biggest in the world. And yes it was huge from what I saw.

Experts say formation of this cave took place almost 150 million years ago, going back to the Jurassic period.

This cave was explored by the local people in the year 1962-63. Along with the help of mountaineers this place was further brought into light and then the government took it up to make it a tourism site.
The entrance of the cave was widened and the arrangements were made for boating through out in the caves.

In the olden times the cave was used as a shelter place during war times and also the water from the cave was used for irrigation purpose.

The cave is full of various mineral contents. Limestone being the most. It is said that 1 millimetre of it takes around 100 years to grow. There is absolutely no sunlight here and hence no presence of any living organisms are found in the cave. The water is Crystal clear but there are no fishes. The temperature is always constant 16 is the air and 12 is water. The water at some points is deep as 14 metres. The water is very hard hence cannot be used for drinking.

The beautiful formation of the Stalagmites and the Stalactites is a sight not to miss. There would be a lot of Crystals formation happening here but we did not get to see that part of it.

There is a boat ride taking you through the entire caves, some parts are very narrow and you need to be careful with your head as there are chances of getting hurt. It's an enjoyable ride with water dripping on you at many points.

We started our day with this and it was the ideal way.
Take a look at the pictures to see how mesmerizing this place is.

Very Interesting...just like watching "Discovery" or "Nat Geo". Nature and Mother Earth has so much hidden underneath its layers that one life is really not enough to see all! Truly Fantastic Captures. Loved watching them and am sure you had really really wonderful time there.

Beautiful nature photography
I appreciate your traveling....

Thank you for the journey through the caves. They are beautiful but I always feel a bit claustrophobic in caves.

Oh it looks very fantastic place.. But as I understand they explored this place very late as it was formed in Jurassic time.. The purple light is natural or they lighted?

Yaa they explored it very late, probably cause its in a interior village. The l8ghting effect is given its not natural

I love Iran, the color of cave very awesome, purple is beauty, greeting from Indonesia. :)

Thank you @ericha

My pleasure :)

I've been to a few caves, but I've never been on a boat. Probably, it amazing. This cave has beautiful lighting. And there is a big hall where concerts ? are given, in caves usually good acoustics...

Very nice cave formations @nainaztengra. I grew up Caving in practically my backyard. Had a lot of Limestone where I was raised.

And Caving on the weekends with friends was a regular thing. Even got stuck in some tight crawl spaces for a number of hours ;)

Thank you for sharing, very beautiful :)

You really should visit Slovenia! Our caves are much grander than yours!

All the best, Nejc

It is very similar to Trang An - Viet Nam, i like discovering about cave water

Nice post 👍👍👍👍
friend for information sharing,

Great photos :)

The coloured lights look amazing on the cave rock formations, was it very cold and damp down in the caves though?

Wow. Caves both thrill and scare me. When I was a kid, my parents took me to some caves, and turned around and saw me with my little red cardigan over my head, as if that was going to protect me if the cave collapsed!!
