Tips For Succesful Baby Travel

If you’re traveling by plane, book a seat that has a bassinet connection, and a separate seat for your older child, if needed. During the pre-boarding phase, have one parent pre-board the bassinet or the toddler’s car seat, then de-board the plane until it’s closer to take-off time. This way, the bassinet or car seat is ready to go, but you and your child can use the extra 30 minutes walking around being active instead of waiting out that time seated on the crowded plane.

Designate a baby-changing station

Bring a box of wipes, lay out a changing pad (I like to put a disposable changing pad on top of a hotel towel) and stack a bunch of diapers in one area. That way, you won't need to chase down the diaper bag when that first big poop occurs.

Prepare for the climate

Sounds simple right? When you travel to a cold destination, bring warm clothes. When you travel to a hot destination, bring shorts and T-shirts.

It is that simple, BUT… think about what you will need when you travel from a cold climate to a warm climate. Do you have proper baby clothing? Do you have a sun protecting swim suit? Do you have proper shoes? What about a sun hat? We use this sun hat and love it because it has a strap and protects his neck.

When we took Braydon on his first trip to California it was during the middle of winter in Canada. Most of his 3-6 month old clothing was designed for cold weather. When we went to purchase summer clothes we had very limited choice and the clothes we did find were outrageously expensive because they were out of season.

As a season comes to an end, pick up a few items for your baby on sale in a bigger size. You’ll save yourself a lot of money and have some new cute clothes for a vacations.

WHITE ONESIES: (applies to 1-6 mo.) Atticus was an explosive pooper when he was exclusively breastfeeding would have multiple blowouts a day! So when traveling I would stock up on white onesies and used them as disposable onesies. It makes it so much easier to just throw them away after then to deal with dirty, stinky, wet laundry! You can find them cheap on amazon
