This has to the most asked about places from people when they see my photos. I have visited Hamilton Pool several times and here are a few tips on planning a trip.

  1. Reservations are needed. Apparently this is a new rule I have not been to Hamilton pool since this was implemented. You can use the link below to make reservation.https://parks.traviscountytx.gov/find-a-park/hamilton-pool
  2. Be prepared for a small hike and pack light. While the hike is only 1/4 of a mile long and is mostly shaded you will still be feeling the heat. You might not want to be carrying heavy items like large coolers and chairs. I would recommend packing an outdoor blanket instead of carrying chairs and a lightweight hiking backpack. Avoid getting an outdoor blanket that uses fleece. I bought a beach blanket from Costco that works really well It's thick enough not to feel the rocks and is very light weight. Bring plenty of water if you plan on staying a while, along with some food since it is difficult to leave and return.
  3. Bring Water Shoes. There are a lot of pointy rocks you have to walk on and water shoes are great for avoiding possible minor cuts. They are also better for the hike there are areas where the steps on the trail get really steep so be prepared. Personally I use Keen brand water shoes. If you plan on hiking to different waterfalls or lakes in hill country I would suggest investing in some good water shoes. I bought KEEN Women's Clearwater CNX Sandal and they work great for the hike and getting in the water. Make sure if you are traveling with anyone elderly or small children they may need some help on the trail.
  4. Stay Hydrated. The water here is cool and while swimming its easy to get dehydrated without noticing. Since it would be hard to get any emergency medical care
  5. Get there early. If you want to see the water the way it looks in photos on the internet you want to get to the park early. The more people that arrive and as the day gets later the water starts to become more murky.
  6. Call ahead before you go especially if it has been raining in the days before your visit. If the bacteria level in the water is too high then they will not allow you to swim so you may want to call the day of or day before to ask if they are allowing swimming. 512-264-2740
  7. No pets allowed. While many places in Hill country are dog friendly no dogs are allowed in this park.

Nice trip! The weather was so good!

How many days have you stayed ? @nadstx

This was a weekend trip the drive is not to long from where I am. I used to go when I was already in the Austin area. I have not been since they have implemented the need for reservations. Its a beautiful place to visit and take a swim and I decided to post because so many people ask me about it when they see my photos and when you go you want to have the right gear to enjoy the day so I thought I would share.
