Holi Festival of colors

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Bored by the cold outside weather, I decided to laze all day browsing the internet among the pictures I saved on Google Drive. In a folder I found some pictures from a festival I attended last summer. The pictures were not so great, but the memories that came to my mind made me write this post.

In July 2017 For the first time I participated in the famous Holi Festival in Austria. Holi is an ancient Hindu religious festival known as the "Festival of Colors" which has become popular with non-Hindus in many parts of South Asia. In recent years the festival has spread to parts of Europe and North America as a spring celebration of love and colors.

In the night before Holi, people gather together, perform religious rituals and then pray for the destruction of their internal evil. The next morning, people start the real carnival, they would smear each other with colored powders and drenching each other in open streets, parks, and grounds outside. Sometimes water guns and water-filled balloons are used for fun. People are singing and dancing on the street, many of them spend the night in parks or pubs with friends.

This kind of festival I think should not be missed by anyone. Simply when you are covered with colors, you feel more alive than ever, full of energy and a lust for fun.

And at the end, a picture with me. :)
