From Iligan City where i am residing RCII bring all of the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) scholar to Mapawa Natures Park to attend the Environmental youth camp and it happened that i am one of those fortunate scholar.
Before i will share to all of you my awesome experience, let me tell you some sort of information about the Mapawa Natures Park.
Mapawa Natures Park is located in Malasag, Barangay Cugman, Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, Philippines. This park lies a mere 30 minutes away from the city proper of CDO. The place is perfect for trekking with nature, the park caters both team building activity and family bonding such activities like camping and reunion. Moreover, the place provide a relaxing environment to unwind specially to people who seeks peace of mind and solitude. It is also better if you have your own car to get there, public transportation aren't available on the way from the city proper but instead you can rent either taxi or habal habal if you don't have a means of transportation.
To recap my whole experience let me start from day 1. Just last year on first week of May 2017 i got to visit the beautiful setting of Mapawa Natures Park through the opportunity given by the said sponsoring company. The night before the travel i already bagged all the things which are needed for the 2 days and 1 day of stay at the park. Obviously i am very excited and curios about the place, i don't know what lies on my way, may it far or near but the only thing i had in mind those time was fun and excitement.
It will take roughly 2 hours of travel from Iligan City to Cagayan de Oro city and another 30 minutes from the city center of CDO. We rode by van and there are a total of four vans all in all, if i am right their were 35 of us from Iligan. On the way up to the park you can see different tall trees at each side of the road which seems to be more relaxing.
After reaching the park the beautiful views and amazing trees welcome us. They have rooms or houses for us to stay. There's a playground, pool, streams, zip line and wide areas where visitors can hike. The park also offers horse back riding, canyoneering, zip line, rope bridge crossing and simple trek just around the park.
For day 1 activities we did the following:
- team building activity
- Environmental seminar
- Chanting
- Bonfire
- Cultural night
After all the activities we have to go back to the ranch house to rest and sleep to regain our energy since we have to wake up early for the remaining activity.
Day 2, our day two started with a beautiful morning and imposing views. After some sort of preparation like bathing and eating delicious breakfast. Everyone was very excited to nestle in the forest park in cugman.
After passing the forest we had crossed a hanging bridge and then i got to conquer one of my greatest fear. That is to hold and place very close to a giant snake. Hahahaha... My face in the photo was so distracting.
Take the gripping zipline is perhaps most challenging and also the most awarding after a long hour of race even if my group rank last it doesn't matter to me. Because i am able to reward myself by taking my first zipline experience. And of course everything will not made possible without the people who became an instruments to made everything possible.I thank God and the RCCII for the experience worth remembering.
