An American Tourist in England

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

How to really engage your audience. It all begins with the story you are trying to tell. This is one such story.

Continuing my experiment of posting my videos only to Steemit for the first seven days and only posting out links from here after that time. This is the second video in the test.
You are free to share this on your social networks but I won't be doing that initially.

Bob is our cousin from the USA. As an American tourist in England he knows that to get stuff seen pronto he needs a local guide. Bob is a photographer and so we get on like a house on fire. He's shooting, I'm filming and we covered a lot of ground in just one day.

First we went to a local horse riding event. Dressage. Bob loves horses and was super excited that just a few steps from my house there was a full on gymkhana taking place.

Next we visited a local antique shop and Bob bought a porcelain Jersey Cow which made his day. Then we popped into Cambridge to get some photos of the River Cam with people messing about in punt boats. The footage is from an earlier trip but you'll get the idea.

Finally we visited a stately home run by the National trust. Wimpole Hall Bob was about to explode with joy as he stepped onto the estate that would make Downton Abbey look like a cheap motel.

The map below may give you some idea of the size of this estate. It is massive with gardens that literally stretch to the horizon.

It may seem quaint and small by American standards where you have huge farms that are 100's of miles square but by English standards this place is absolutely massive. Over my shoulder in this shot you can see the far horizon. That is still part of the garden.

There are walking trails around the estate which can take several hours to complete assuming you make it all the way around.

This is Vanessa. She is one of the few remaining traditional spinners of wool in the whole of the United Kingdom. Vanessa has been spinning for over thirty years and sells her mittens and scarfs to the tourists.

Vanessa has been more or less a permanent fixture at Wimpole Hall for many years and she was very happy to let us photograph and film her, to add to my small collection of these traditional spinning videos.

Hope you enjoy the video and if you do leave a comment.

This video went kinda viral on steemit https://steemit.com/culture/@molometer/male-pattern-baldness

You did an exceptional job on your post. It was very interesting seeing the horses and the antique shop with all the old items of the past. I would love shopping in such a store. It was amazing to see Wimpole Hall too. Such a stately and lovely structure and the estate and surrounding areas was wonderful to experience. England has such rich history and a fabulous place to visit. I hope your brother is enjoying himself. Happy weekend to you all.

Bob had a great visit thanks. Bob is a cousin. He lived with the family many years ago in London.

Awesome Cousin!

I'll let him know you thought so.

Sounds like a wonderful day!

It was pretty amazing.

Hmmmm if only there was a contest going on right now with a location in England....

I came over from YouTube. I upvoted you. The UK is certainly a fascinating place. Bob must be having a lot of fun.

Thanks Craig for the upvote and making the extra effort. The experiment is ongoing.

When you make videos I'll try to come over and watch them here.

That would be great. What would be even better is for you to drop in your stuff and see how it goes. You've got nothing to lose?

Do you really have actual cash in your pocket from this site? And I don't want travel rewards or coupon discounts.

Nope but I could take out what I've earned so far. If I wanted too.
Other people I know have done so.
If your not interested that's fine too. Don't worry about it. It's just another website with some interesting features.

Hmm. Starting to make sense. I like these shots and your accompanying story a lot, so voted and resteemed

Thanks Vicki for the upvotes and resteem. Don't worry about the spammers. There really aren't that many here. Most of the links like the one above is trying to give you more money for joining the group.

I don't have a Newton's cradle, but I'm going to get one to add to my Galileo's thermometer.

Haha get and Archimedes screw and you'll have the beginnings of a collection.
