One of the most memorable experiences during my Scandinavian trip with my partner Dan, was quad biking through a blizzard (small one) in Grindavik, Iceland! For one, we've never experienced snow before and two, what better way to see snow is to throw ourselves in 6 week trip to Scandinavia.
We went with 4x4 Adventure Iceland https://www.4x4adventuresiceland.is/ to take us around the contrast of mountains and beaches.
We love supporting local tour operators and also it was such a fun way to see the land of fire and ice. (mostly ice haha). The guys at 4x4 Adventure Iceland, picked us up from our hotel (http://hoteleyja.is/) at 10am then we were off to their base to get suited up.
Look, we're not gonna lie - it was COLD. Coming from two aussies leaving the country smack bang in the middle of summer to -20c coldness was quite interesting. Even more interesting, was that I had to remove my gloves to take photos whilst on the bike! Wasn't smart at the time(my fingers were numb) but the photos were well worth it hehe
Here, we're heading towards our first pit stop and also moving towards a brewing blizzard. Our first stop was perched up on the side of a mountain for a high point snap view of the rugged coastline.
After our coastline pit stop, we continued our journey through the gravel mountain roads and old ruins. We even got to see some cute furry Icelandic ponies. How incredible is their backdrop - These ponies are living the dream!
We then finally reached the magnificent lava beach with grainy black sand. There were so many pebbles and rock formations with cute little faces on them! So we snuck some back home to Australia as a souvenir hehe
After some nice shots of me wanting to be the mother of dragons - we rode back to base then went to warm up at The Blue Lagoon!
And that was our fun filled day! There's just something about Iceland that we can't really explain - it's a place you have to visit to see for yourself. We will definitely be back one day to experience spring :)
