There are some places that have the small town beach vibe that part of me craves. Monterey California, Montezuma Costa Rica and now Sayulita Mexico has become another sweet spot I will return to again and again. This is my second trip to Sayulita within 2 months and this time I got to share it with someone dear to me instead of alone.
When I spent a couple of days in Sayulita back in February I knew I would be returning as soon as I could. I only blocked out a small time frame to meet up with a wellness center that was attending a health and wellness conference in Acapulco with me. I stayed at their Airbnb a couple of nights and we were off on an all day bus adventure to Acapulco. I wanted to wait to write about the area because there are many things to love especially if you love tranquilo low stress living.
The streets of Sayulita are filled with people instead of cars. Many people use ATV’s, golf carts and bikes to get around town. You will even find horses sharing the roads. Florist wheel carts of flowers along the roads along with vendors selling fresh blueberries and raspberries at awesome prices. Along with outdoor vendors and weekly artist markets, there are also shops with high end clothing, skincare and art.
There is no shortage of great munchies in Sayulita. Rather you are looking for fine dining or casual street food to eat on the go, the variety is abundant and delicious.
The feel of the town is full of color and life with all your basics close at hand. I even found a health food store that had Bronners liquid soap and high quality aloe vera which my skin was crying for from weeks in intense sun.
If the town beach it too busy for your taste there are more private beaches close by like Playa de Muertos which we enjoyed for a little while passing the time before coctkails and tacos.
Sayulita is about 16miles north of Puerto Vallarta’s airport and you can hop a local bus to get there that drops you off right downtown.Even if you are someone that loves big city, Sayulita is a treat for the senses and worth visiting even if only for a day.
