Hi Everybody,
Today I am going to write about C.H.A.T. community and Athens for the first contest of the community. I joined Steemit two days after I learned about it. When my friend introduced Steemit to me, I thought it was a great oppurtunity to share my traveling experiences and pictures. Before Steemit, I did not even try to share my traveling pictures but when I saw that people appreciate original contents here, I decided to share my traveling stories, experiences and pictures on Steemit. A few days after I started posting, I met C.H.A.T. (Culture, History, Art, and Travel) community and loved it from the first second. I met great people through @chatcommunity discord channel. You can meet many people from different countries around the world. Since I joined C.H.A.T. community, I have been supported and encouraged by the C.H.A.T. people. I feel lucky to be in C.H.A.T. and I am looking forward to seeing you in our community!

In the contest, I am supposed to write about my hometown Izmir but I am now living in Athens and I do not have any chance to go to Izmir for now. If you would like to learn about Izmir, you can ask me or you can check @cerenselenpasa 's Izmir post.

If you are interested in traveling, or mythology, history, architecture, sports, art, food, warm people, beautiful beaches, islands, you should visit Athens at least once. Athens is a city that gives you millions of reasons to be visited.
Athens is one of the world's oldest cities. Athens named after Athena has been people's home for more than 4,000 years and you can see this when you walk around the city. Each corner of the city has a different story from different centuary. As we all know, the most known tourist attraction in Athens is Acropolis of Athens. Besides of that, Athens has many surprises for you. Even you google Athens, you can figure out some of those surprises, but there are more of them waiting for you to discover them one by one. Athens was the host city of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 before it hosted Olympics in 2004 again. Some of the games were hosted by Panathinaiko Stadium in 2004.

In the center of Athens, the Greek Parliament and Syntagma Square are waiting for you. If you are in front of the Greek Parliament at the right time, it has a surprise for you. Some of you might know "Changing of the Guard" ritual of countries. Greece is one of those countries applying this ritual in front of the Parliament. Every Sunday at 11 a.m., the ritual happens.

After you watch the Changing of the Guard ritual, you can walk down from Syntagma Square. I would suggest you to walk all the way down with a few stops until you reach Monastraki Square. While you are on your way to Monastraki Square, you will be amazed by Church of Panagia Kapnikarea that was built some time in 11th centuary.

If you make a left from Church of Panagia Kapnikarea, I would suggest you to do, you will see Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens and Agios Eleftherios Church. They are next to each other.

Monastiraki is a flea market neighborhood in the old town of Athens. You will see it easily when you get to Monastiraki Square. You can shop from small markets, buy some stuffs from gift stores and walk around.

When you get tired of walking and people, you can get to National Garden of Athens and take some rest there. You can find a peaceful spot in the garden, and enjoy the beauty of nature. It's not really far from the center.

Once you reach Areopagus Hill what is also known as Mars Hill, you will be able to see Acropolis. Actually you can see Acropolis from anywhere around the city. As I know, it is forbidden to build high buildings according to law to protect view of Acropolis. One more surprise for you, if you are here on the first Sunday of any month, you do not need to pay anything to enter the Acropolis. As I know, all museums are free of charge on the first Sunday of every month. Mars Hill is giving you a beautiful view of Athens.

I am going to end this post with a picture of small piece of Acropolis. It is really hard to see all of it, if you are close to it. I hope you enjoyed my post and I hope you want to visit Athens some day. If you plan a trip to Athens, please let me know. :)
