6 Kinds of Thai Massage Services You Might Not Know

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

I see this sign in almost every massage parlor in the Philippines.

If you heard about authentic pizza, you will think about Italy. When it comes to massage, that is equivalent to Thailand.

They boast it here and there, how they have the traditional and authentic kind. So when I first came to Thailand, I said I should try it.

I did... in Bangkok.

I can't remember the name now as it was almost a year ago.

It was good, but nothing spectacular. I even think that my masseuse in the Philippines is so much better.

Thailand is fond of long street of night markets. So they made a solution for those aching feet of the shopping addicts. For prices ranging from 100 baht to over a thousand, you can relax and feel amazing.

Let me show you the different setup they have here.

1. The massage chairs on the street

source

You will see them everywhere. Not just in Chiang Mai, but for the rest of Thailand. Usually, they are located at the streets near shopping areas like night markets, near the pubs, or in busy areas.

They will usually call people out, while they hold a pricing catalog.

They mostly provide dry massage (without oil), as you are just seated and is outside where all those who pass by can see.

2. The mats on the street

source

I laugh when I saw this in one of the night markets. The street is full of vendors and people looking for things to buy. And just around the corner are sleeping bags that are right there laying on the street.

They do massages on the street where you lay down on the ground. If you are getting this massage and your eyes are open, you are on the foot level of the people.

It’s noisy and since it is on the street, it’s not that clean. It also feels weird to be look out by people passing by.

I haven’t tried this myself, but it doesn’t look relaxing.

3. Massage near the Beach

source

After a day of beach activities, and walking on the shore... won't you just love to have a soothing massage?

In the south part of Thailand, you will always find them having a mat where you could lay down and get your pampering.

4. Massage Parlors

source

These are the regular massage parlors you usually see. They are equipped with massage tables, different kinds of oils and a relaxing ambiance.

They are quite expensive than those on the street, but are more into making you feel at peace. You get to unwind with their lounge area, read magazines, and other have sauna area too.

If you are looking into a whole package of relaxation, this is the place to be.

I had the best massage yesterday, and it was so good. I will write the details on my next article, so stay tuned!

5. Home service

source

For those who doesn’t want to go out, or aren’t into massage parlors, the home service option is easily available.

Usually, the parlors offer this option. You can check on the internet or on their facebook page to ask.

I like having a massage on a real massage table where my head is facing downward. Doing this in your own room, your head should be facing the left or right side the whole time. Which in my opinion loses the relaxing idea of the massage.

6. Extra Service

Let's not be innocent, you know it exists 😳

source

There are massage places that advertise it.

Most don't offer it, but those who are near the clubs are somewhat open to it. Others call it happy ending, so if you've seen it in their menu, that is probably the same.

There you go.

Depends on the kind of massage you want and your budget, you will never run out of places to have your "me time". Just looking at the images in this article, makes me want to schedule my next session.

If you are into massages, Thailand should be on your bucketlist!

@marypineda Imissyoutoo.

I'm really eager to visit Thailand because of your post. It's interesting to know that there are more than 1 kind of thai massage. Indeed, traveling to other places is a must for that's the best way to learn their culture and practices. Reading it in blog posts and watching videos about the place is not enough. We need to see and experience to deeply appreciate what they have to offer. But not the extra service😂😂😂.

My favorite massage is lava stone massage. Very relaxing and I just love it. I hope to pamper myself soon.

You made your stalker happy and inspired again. Thankyou.

I would be happy to tour you around if you visit. I am in the northern part though, so you need two planes. Or you can do land travel from bangkok which is about 12 hours. Yeah, nothing beat experiencing things and being out there. I am actually leaving later to see another country. I've been in Laos before but didn't see it as much. I might blog about it, or I will probably just enjoy the moment.

I should try that massage! Haven't heard about it. And yeah, pamper your self sometimes.

Thank you for inspiring me to write everyday. As long as I know there is someone reading my work, then I won't stop :)

Mary, I'm your stalker, remember? 😊
I don't mind 12 hour land travel if I could enjoy the view. I might visit Safari Park. But if I'm travelling alone then maybe 2 planes will be the best option.

Ingat! Please do take more pictures. Would love to see them as well.

I have so many stories to tell!!! Like, a lot!
The last 24 hours have been a roller coaster ride. It's crazy!
Will write it down as soon as I can.

@marypineda I'm excited to read it! Actually while posting my new post, I've been searching for your new post so I could read it. I'm just excited. 😊

Great post. You can get a massage almost anywhere here in Thailand :)

Thanks @robcubbon. I can't agree more. I feel bad missing the steemit meet up twice in a row. I will catch up next week for sure. See you around.

This was a really cool article! Well done :D
The only thai massage I had so far was in Germany, it wasnt bad but too hard.

Thank you! Glad you like it.
You should try where it originally came from. Visit Thailand maybe?

Nice post

Thank you :)

There are so many things that draw me to Thailand, but I must say in my opinion, the parlor massage is amazing how they can bend you into a pretzel, and make you want to "tap out" lol!! I absolutely love and can't wait to get back there for more Thai massage!! Thanks for sharing!

LOL! Yeah, isn't it's awesome! They have superpowers, but I laugh most of the time because they turn me into acrobat, haha. Let's meet up if you are still here. And maybe I can ride the helicopter you are driving ;)
