Exploring The Abandoned City Of Pripyat - The Mystery of Chernobyl

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Once the most expensive city in the Soviet Union, Pripyat (Ukraine) was abandoned ~32 years ago because of the Chernobyl accident, which caused radiation to cover the city. Pripyat was located just 3km from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Almost 50,000 people had to be evacuated quickly. Therefore all things remained in their places. The town is still there and looks incredibly creepy, especially at night.

Pripyat - Haunted Healthcare City

The city of Pripyat has a lot of healthcare related buildings. Most of the below photos were taken in the old childrens ward in the hospital of Pripyat. The hospital could accommodate up to 400-450 patients at the time and it was here where the first casualties of the nuclear disaster of Chernobyl were brought. The place looks haunted, being hurt by intense human trauma. The city furthermore has empty children's playgrounds, concrete empty buildings being worn out over time, a lot of broken windows, and old registers. It is fascinating yet intensely scary.

Well Preserved City

Exploring the hospital was one experience with a lot of emotion and history. Especially because most of the buildings in the city were still in pretty good shape and have been left well conserved. You could easily imagine all the people who once lived there. The town is big and had everything, from more than 15 kindergartens, schools, cinemas, sport stadiums, postal offices, several large supermarkets, hotels, shops, barbers. Such a great city wiped out with one disaster....

Thanks @hanen! More of these coming up soon. Such interesting story to tell :)

I'm wondering if it's safe to even be there?

Yes it is, although there are definitely zones where you have to be careful and you can't stay for long as the radiation is above the limits!

Thank God.
Safety should be priority.needs special care if someone wants to visit there..isn't it?

I feel sad for all the people who used to lived there. We cannot tell our lives if what tomorrow will bring to each of us. Maybe we are good today but tomorrow can be a life changing moment. We always can never tell.

@martinphoto

I am a sucker for these kind of places and cities, i really love to visit every town and its history especially lost towns, the atmosphere in ur pictures seems like a movie where suddenly all its citizens just up and disappeared. seeing these pictures is fascinating and at the same time sad, to witness its collapse and ruin. thank you for sharing this amazing post.

Really the place looks haunted in your click , like some typical hollywood horror movie set !! nice click met.

It's terrible!

I like your work and the old history photos are amazing

The Chernobyl disaster was a powerful shock that made us turn to clean energy and nature like wind and solar energy

it so touching and I felt pity to the people. How is they right now is they are in good health and situation?

hello friends this is good, I really like this post is great, very good image and article too, can count on my vote and my criticism, nothing more to say eme dismiss his friend @manduto 👋

A reminder of the dangers from the nuclear disasters.

Incredible job taking this photos. It must've been a fascinating experience!

Wow! Not a place I would have put on my travellist, but seeing this makes me wanting to check this place out. Next couple of weeks I will be in Japan and Hiroshima and Fukoshima are potential spots to see similar tragedies I think. You've got a new follower fellow dutchie ;)

These images make me bring back memories of a movie I saw a while ago, that I liked a lot. I congratulate you for being able to capture every corner of this city with such good tact and professionalism. "a story is immortalized every time someone decides to tell about it".

Really the images are a bit cold, the photos show a lot of pain, distance, they are chilling to see, apart from the story that your accounts that happened that is quite strong. What a sadness for those people to leave everything, leave behind everything about them and start from scratch. Excellent pictures friend, I do not know why but it gave me sadness. When you see these photos, you really think about the family. Good initiative. I read, comment and vote I'll wait for you for my post @gabybarboza

Great work!
Keep going.

One of my dream explores!! Was it difficult?

The Chernobyl accident reminds us of how dangerous nuclear plant is. Building nuclear plant has to be the last choice to solve our problems.
