10 places to visit on Lake Como in Italy (part 1 of 2)

If you want to go on holiday in Italy, precisely on Lake Como, you will find places and landscapes rich in culture and fantastic landscapes.

I'll show you the 10 most beautiful villages to visit on Lake Como, where you can spend moments of relaxation, immersed in art and nature.

1) The city of Como

Como is the city from which the lake takes its name, a paradise rich in history and culture.

Places to visit are the Cathedral of Como (Duomo), Palazzo Broletto and Villa Olmo, characterized by wonderful frescoes and a park to be visited.

The historic center of Como is full of small historic alleyways and prestigious shops. Other places to visit are the Tempio Voltiano (dedicated to the inventor Alessandro Volta) and the Chieda si Sant'Abbondio built by the Benedictine monks.

Como is a beautiful city: during the day it is full of evocative landscapes, at night full of history.

2) The city of Bellagio

Bellagio is a small romantic and highly suggestive village.

It is completely immersed in nature, characterized by colorful houses, historic and picturesque alleys and ancient churches, which give the magical charm of an ancient village.

In Bellagio, you must visit Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni.

3) The city of Brunate

Brunate can be reached thanks to a funicular connection, which allows you to leave from Como and arrive at your destination in a few minutes.

This short funicular connection offers wonderful and unforgettable landscapes.

This small village is called "the balcony of the Alps" for its characteristic viewpoints, which allow you to see Como, all the ramifications of the lake, the Lombard plain and the Alps.

Brunate guarantees breathtaking emotions: you can take timeless photography.

3) The city of Lecco

Lecco is the city where Alessandro Manzoni was inspired to write The Promessi Sposi.

In this village, we find the Casa di Lucia, and the church of Don Abbondio. Moreover, it is possible to visit the Manzonian museum, where the writer once passed his childhood.

Other places to visit are the Cathedral of Lecco (Duomo di Lecco), the Palazzo Bovara, the Basilica of San Nicolò and the Viscontea tower.

4) The city of Cernobbio

Cernobbio is an elegant town that stretches over the foot of Mount Bisbino and owes its name to the ancient Cistercian monastery.

Its historic center corresponds to the Piazza del Risorgimento that juts out over the lake. Stroll along the sumptuous villas nearby and do not miss Villa Erba, where Visconti and Villa d'Este stayed, which is now a luxury hotel.

Then again, Villa Pizzo and Villa Bernasconi. Ideal to give a little glamor to your trip.

5) Isola Comacina

The island Comacina is an important archaeological area, due to the many battles fought in the Middle Ages.

The Barbarossa destroyed it, still in medieval times, leaving it uninhabited for 800 years.

On the island, the ruins of the Roman church of Sant'Eufemia and the three Houses for Artists stand out, a marvel of architecture.
