Hi Steemit friends,
Last time, I shared my trip to Lower Antelope Canyon with you. If you interested, you may press here. Today I would like to continue my trip in Page. After finishing our trip to Lower Antelope Canyon, we heading to Horseshoe Bend which only takes 13 minutes drive. So I would strongly recommend to include this place if you traveled to Page.
Horseshoe Bend/
Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River downstream of Glen Canyon. To enjoy the view of a 270 ° curve in the Colorado River and Horseshoe Bend, we have to first took a ¾ mile hike up and down a hill to the edge overlooking Horseshoe Bend.
It takes about 30 minutes to walk up to the destination. Although it didn’t look very far, we got there slightly after 2 pm. It seemed very far because of the desert sun. Walking along the trail, there's no shade of any kind except one pavilion. When we first saw the pavilion, we thought we probably arrived at the destination. But....the fact is we just finished 1/3 of the trail.
We didn’t think we would need any water but quickly realized bringing water with us would have been a good idea as the hike up was a very tiring walking through sandy trail and burning sun.
The one and only one pavilion on the trail
View along the trail
When you get to the end of the trail, this is the view you will see. This is the Colorado River in Glen Canyon, making a 270 curve in an entrenched meander. As you stand on the edge of the canyon you can see the river and take incredible photos.
From the edge of the horseshoe bend, it’s about a 1000 feet (305 meters) straight drop down to the river. It was a little scary going near the edge as there are no railings. I managed to sit down on the edge of a rock; it made me feel much safer when I took photos and enjoying the view.
The view is absolutely stunning. The colors of the rocks change throughout the day, depending on the angle of the sun.. The river shines and sparkles, changes from deep blue-green to greenish gray depending on the light. It's totally worth walking half hour under the desert sun for this view.
