A piece of heaven (india travel)

in #travel8 years ago

It is hard to believe that this is paradise in India, a country known for always having so many people everywhere. Any city in northern India has thousands or millions of people and not seeking refuge inside the escape to the reigning confusion. But there is an exception further south: Mundrothuruth or Munroe Island.

The island of Munroe, near Kollam in Kerala, is only 13 square kilometers and 10 thousand inhabitants. The Anglophone name is due to the fact that the island to have inspired Colonel John Munro, a former ruler of Travancore region.

I've been on the island for three days in the house of a local family in what was the most peaceful stage of this second trip to India. Munroe was my retreat, my place of peace after intense days. Not much to do on the island: there are no monuments, churches, shops and restaurants, nothing but hundreds of tiny channels inside and around the island. Perfect.

These were the memories that brought this divine island, this piece of heaven.
