[TinTravelBlog] #1 Hiking Germany's Highest Peak (Zugspitze) part 1

in #travel ‱ 7 years ago (edited)

Hello steemit friends!! It's been a month since my introduction and here I am again... 🙋  🙋

This time, I want to share with you guys about my first hiking experience in Germany. Me and five of my friends hiked up to Zugspitze; the highest mountain in Germany (2,962 m above sea level). There are 5 routes up to Zugspitze and we choosed Reintal with Garmisch-Partenkirchen as starting point.

For your information, 5 of us never hiked before. So, don't be afraid and just try it guys! YOLO, right?

Don’t worry guys, if you don’t like hiking, you can still go to Zugspitze with Zugspitzbahn. Click here to check the price and the route.

Day-1

We took morning train form Darmstadt to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for 5 hours. Just because we arrived at noon, we decided to stay overnight in Hostel 2962.

If you want to cut your budget, I suggest you to take midnight train so that you’ll arrive in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the early morning and then you can start hiking right away.

Garmisch-Partenkichen is a small town and there is not much you can do there. We arrived there around 4 pm and after took a little brake in Hostel, we went to Rewe (Supermaket). We were planning to take Dönner Kebab for our dinner, but it was already 7 pm and everything closed already. Actually, not everything, other restaurant like Italian restaurant is still open after 7 pm, but it was too expensive for us, so nope.  Thankfully, we found a Chinese restaurant that cheaper than others, so we went in. The owner mistook us as Chinese and talked in Chinese. As always, neither me or my friend can understand it. But she was really nice to us, she gave us a mountain of rice for FREEEEEEEE. “YOU ARE THE BEST, MAM!”.

So, remember! Cheap Food: before 7pm! Or you can buy something else in Rewe instead (It’s much cheaper).

Day-2

Around 7am we took the bus from near Hauptbahnhof to Olympia Skistadion.

After 10 minutes first uphill, I felt like dying. Well I haven’t really done sport since I was in high school, so yeah, thankfully I was not dead.

After long way we hiked, it seems like we took the wrong road, because there was so many cars passing by and just a few group that really walked. But I’m not sure.

After we walked through the forest, we found the first river and took a break there. We didn’t know if the river water drinkable, but we drank it, and nothing happened. So, I guess it’s fine.

Around 11am we walked again, and it started to drizzle. We arrived at the second river, and there was a small restaurant nearby. Sadly, we didn’t try the food there, so we have no idea how much it cost.

It started to rain, and the road became slippery. The rain was getting heavier and we decided to split up. Two of us was leading the way, me and my friend were in the middle and two other was at the end of line. Well, me and my friend got lost. The rain was really heavy, and we couldn’t see our friends at front 😅. But in the end, we managed to find the right way and arrived at the next stream.

We also found the waterfall but sadly, we couldn't take good pictures because of the rain.

This time we had to across the stream. Thanks to the rain, the bridge was damaged by the stream flow. Two of my friends fixed the bridged right away and helped the other to cross the stream. And you know what, the rain stopped exactly after we across the stream. Thanks rain! You made my day really unforgettable! 😑

ReintalangerhĂŒtte (Hut,where we stayed) was not far from here. We stayed there overnight. (please note that you have to book the bed one or two month before, because it’s really full in summer.)

If you guys want to take a bath 🚿 ,   , find someone who in charge there and tell them that you want to use the hot water, because you have to pay for the hot water. They’ll give you a coin and just insert it in the machine. For 1 coin, you can take a bath for 5 minutes with hot/warm water. (Honestly, I don't really remember. But I think it's not more than 10 minutes). Don’t want to pay? Surely you can still take a bath, but with extreme cold water.đŸ˜”Â

We also tried the food there and the warm beverage. My friend said the food was really good but unfortunately, I didn’t try any just because I still had some canned food.   I don’t think you can pay with card there, so it might be better to bring some cash.

There  is also one room in the Hut, where you can dry you clothes and shoes. It was really full though, but we left our jacket and shoes there anyway. Since it was raining all day, we just hung out at the balcony until night.

That’s all for today and hope you enjoyed this post. Thanks for reading and please wait for the part 2  🙆 . Please upvote if you like this post and follow me for more!
