UNKNOWN CARIBBEAN PARADISE, SURFING IN VIRGIN WATERS! ''LOS ROQUES''

in #travel6 years ago

Surfing has been everything for me. I would like to be in the water every day of my life. I have surfed many places, but none like Los Roques.

A set of islands and keys in the Lesser Antilles belonging to Venezuela. Los Roques has an atoll structure, rare in the Caribbean but typical of the Pacific Ocean, with two external barriers formed by coral communities, which protect the archipelago from strong currents, but when its hurricane season in the Atlantic ocean, nothing can stop perfect turquoise waves.

You can get there by air or by water, we took a private flight from the outside of the capital (Caracas), so in 40 minutes we where landing in this heavenly island ''Gran Roque''. White sand, beautiful people and awesome vibes.

Us in this 6 passenger small plain with our surfboards right in the middle of everything, the boards were almost touchings the pilots. Was a whole challenge for the pilots to get into their seats.

We stay in the hostal ''Karlin'', I don't know if Hostal should be the proper word of it, Is a family house ruled by a gentle woman, Mrs. Perfecta (and yes her name is Perfecta Salazar) and her sister, they are very warmth people and it feels like if you are visiting a close family member, she serves you with kindness, attentions and plenty of food, Just like her name, our stay over there was Perfect.

Here is a photo of me and Ms Perfecta.

We stay 7 days in this paradise, me, my girlfriend and 9 friends, cruising key to key finding the best spots, the best waves.  A dream weather and a dream team.

I have gone to places like: The Bahamas (US), Aruba, Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Bocas del Toro (Panama), Bonaire and a truly believe that Los Roques still something else.

I try to go to there at least two times a year. So every time I go, I get this feeling of being local, but Obviously I am not. You have to respect the locals everywhere you go.

Venezuela is going thru a strong economic and humanitarian crisis, but in Los Roques non of this realities exists, they have a sustainable tourism economy, with a population of 3,100 people who inhabit it, and of course plenty of food in the sea. I think is the most peaceful place in the country.

The last day we decided to have a break from surfing, me and my girlfriend @lecocoramos dedicate the afternoon to take pictures in the main key ''Gran Roque''.
