Jennfer Wanders in the Mystical Island of Siquijor (Part 1)

It's good to be lost in the right direction.

Hi fellow Steemians, Im back with my first post about travel.

I'd like to share my adventures of the used to be known as Island of Fire, the third smallest province in the country, the Mystical Island Siquijor. It is an island located in the Central Visayas, Philippines. To the north of it is Cebu, to the west is Negros, northeast is Bohol, and to it's south is the Island of Mindanao.

The Spaniards called this place the Island of Fire cause when they came into the place the island gave off an eerie glow. This glow came from the great swarms of fireflies that harbored in the numerous molave trees on the island.

Aside from it's interesting history, the Island is known to have mystic traditions, and that shamans, witches and sorcerers exists, even magic potions too. I even hesitated to visit there, due to the fact that there's a great chance of me being petrified by any of the native witches anytime.

It was my team who pushed me to go the place, Im glad I travelled with them, they were awesome, they made me feel less anxious.

The long travel by boat is all worthy after witnessing the beauty of the Island.

Pictures speak for themselves, but you can’t get the real beauty of any landscape in a photo. Better to see it with your own eyes.

Our first stop is in Capilay Spring Park . This natural, open-to-the-public swimming pool is right in the middle of the town plaza where everyone is free to take a plunge into its refreshing spring waters.

I enjoyed floating with the colorful aqua boats.

Our second stop is in Enchanted Balete Tree, which is a four hundred year old tree.

The branches of this century old balete tree set it’s foliage to a wide canopy that covers the man-made pool in it’s bottom, giving us below a cool, and calm atmosphere. It is interesting to note that the locals couldn’t tell where the water comes from.

Our stop here was an instant refreshing break, aside from the view the place offers a different service. Foot spa service, a Garra Rufa or doctor fish, nibbles our feet to exfoliate dead skin cells.

Right beside the Enchanted Balete Tree are kiosks that sell souvenirs, such as voodoo dolls, key chains, love potions believed to attract those that you want to achieve, and other accessories, that according to them, keeps the illnesses away.

I got myself a love potion to attract positivity.

Aside from the pampering view of Capilay and Balete Tree, we also visited one of the historical places in Siquijor.

The San Isidro Labrador Church of Lazi, the oldest church in the Island. It is among the Baroque Churches of the Philippines , a candidate for World Heritage Site listed by UNESCO.

Across the church is a large convent, which was used for rest and recreation of the Friars.

Until now, it still holds mass and sometimes the priest takes you at the convent for a tour.
