Places I'd Love To Visit (Some day!)

in #travel7 years ago

I wouldn’t call myself a “travel bug”...

I’ve only been to a few countries in my time, and nothing vastly different to my own culture. That long-haired adventurous traveller backpacking through Asia seen in indie films just isn’t me. I like my comforts, and I’m not very adventurous...

That said, there are a few places that I’d love to see some day — if the time and the finances allow. I’m more of a ‘history and culture’ type of traveller. Love to visit museums, historical buildings, listen to local music, that sort of thing...

North America

West Coast

Specifically, California and Oregon. I’ve heard good things about both, but I’ve never managed to make it out to the West Coast of the U.S.

I’d like to see San Francisco, and Portland.

It’s where the hippies were, man! Haight & Ashbury probably doesn’t look the same way, but it would be cool to see it. Portland, I’ve heard that the 90s lives on there.

New Orleans

Mardi Gras! Spicy food! Blues music!

Yes please.

I know there's more to New Orleans than the above, don't yell at me! It would be interesting to see the French influence on the place.

South America

Ecuador - Galapagos

When I was a kid I had a VHS from National Geographic which featured Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Since then I’ve wanted to see it in real life. What always stood out for me were the Marine Iguanas and the Giant Tortoises! Apparently they're delicious...

I'd like to stand with one foot on either side of the Equator, in the city of Quito, the capital of Ecuador.

Europe

British Isles

I’ve been to England and Scotland, but the former only briefly, and the latter I’d really like to spend more time in.

The history of the British Isles is the most fascinating to me, being mostly descended from these peoples. The culture is also closest to my culture, and we share a lot of customs and traditions, not to mention — language!

I love old cities, rich in history.

I’d like to see the countryside of England, and actually get to visit Ireland — Dublin especially.
Scotland is brilliant, and a gorgeous country. I’d like to revisit Edinburgh and Glasgow, but I’d leave out Inverness this time to be honest! Although, Leakey’s Bookstore was great.

France

The Eiffel Tower, the top of most people's’ bucket lists. Sure, I want to see it so I can say I’ve done it. But I’d like to see outside of Paris as well, in the country. Of course, The Louvre is top of my list.

Scandinavia

The immense natural beauty of places like Norway really appeal to me - mountains, fjords, and the like. Plus, the cultural influence of the vikings on the British Isles is interesting to me.

Asia

India

The furthest out on the list, the last, and the most distant from my own culture. India has very, very old cultures within it, and has impacted the world in so many ways — and continues to do so. Not just in its spirituality and philosophy, but technology and mathematics even. This trip would be the biggest undertaking, and would take a lot out of me. Maybe some day!

Where would you really like to visit?

Sort:

Come back to England, the countryside and the cities are awesome. Well all except Wolverhampton ;) Cornwall and Norfolk are beautiful (im biased, i live in Norfolk). Wales is also a beautiful country.

Definitely! Have some family history in Portsmouth and also in Wales. Would love to see the English countryside.

I would really love to go to Canada or Alaska, experience the big wild nature😁

I've only been to Toronto and Halifax, and I loved both (especially Halifax!) Alaska doesn't really interest me though :P

I'm from a country where nature is fantastic, but it's not big, and it's not wild...if you know what I mean😁 I imagine that being in the wild could show me how small I really am😁😁

A traveling soul, great. If you like German history you could add it to your travel list, at least I love history and some day I hope to go to the concentration camps, the berlin wall, etc. Regards

Great Post @jamtaylor London is pretty good. I've lived here for 18 years ! SanFrancisco is a great visit. Alcatraz is a worthwhile day out while you're there and the Golden Gate is MIND BOGGLING. I'd also love to go to India. I would highly recommend Thailand.. amazing place, people, nature. and Australia is a good trip. East Coast is off the scale. I also loved Yucatan in Mexico. France is around the corner, the South is amazing and Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities in Europe.
If I had to recommend somewhere to visit, Barcelona. You would love it and your camera would come back exhausted. Museums, history, culture, the beach, food, music, excellent !! I'd also like to vist the Galapagos :)

London is cool, but I was only there for one day so didn't get to see or do much.

Barcelona sounds like a good plan, actually! I will mentally add that to my list.

you will love Barcelona.. it's a whole city of Fiesta.. although it's in turmoil at the moment. The President is in Jail.. a long complicated story. If you ever get the chance to stop by London again, it's an amazing location ! many flights to Europe connect through London. it's a good stopover :)

I've been to a few countries in Europe and the one that I liked the most was Italy. It's a great place for a photographer. Venice, Florence, Positano, Capri. If you ever go to Capri, visit Monte Solaro in Ana Capri. It has a amazing view, although is not that great for photos.

There are also great museums and you can visit the Vatican.

Roma is great because of the Colosseum but wasn't as beautiful as those other cities.

I liked London but I thought it had a little sad feeling. The museums where great, though.

I thought that Paris was more interesting than London for taking pictures. Loved the view from the top of the Eiffel Tower. You can also go to Giverny and visit Monet's Garden. The Louvre is great in size but there are much better paintings in other museums.

I also have been to Madri and Barcelona. Madri was ok but you can visit Toledo and Segovia.

Barcelona disappointed me a little because I was expecting too much. Stayed for 8 days but there wasn't so many interesting stuff for 8 days. La Sagrada Familia is impressive. Perhaps the most amazing church in the world. Better than St. Peter's Basilica in my opinion.

If you ever go to Barcelona, visit Montserrat.

Since I live in Brazil, the only two places that I would recommend for a foreigner would be "Lençois Maranhenses" (but be prepared to see a lot of poverty and stay away from a bathrrom for a while since the main ride is about 6 hours long withouth a bathroom and also there is a risk of getting robbed). Actually I wouldn't visit it if I lived outside Brazil but it was one of the most amazing views I have ever seen so far. But you have to plan really carefully because there are a few months that you can see the desert with water and it should have rained a lot in the year that you are going.

The other one, that is the most beautiful beach in Brazil is Fernando de Noronha. But there are better beaches in the Caribbean so...

I have never been to the US (yet), but I want to go in 2019. Next year I want to go to Japan.

Some places I will probably never visit but I think you should put in your bucket list: Iceland,
Middle East, Eastern Europe, lots of Asian countries like Thailand, Philippines...

Oh, my... This world is so great but we unfortunately don't have enough time and money to visit all those places...

India is also on my map !

I agree about the Galapagos. A coworker of mine went recently and had a great time. I live in California against my better judgement because it is beautiful. When we sponsored a student from France, he and his friends from France went all over the US and their favorite place was Chicago. I’ve never been, so that might be somewhere else.

I liked Chicago but only spent a few hours there, did an art museum, walked around down town, had lunch by the pier. Was pretty nice.

Ive been to the West coast. I think your going to really enjoy it. Maybe do Asia but not in a backpacking style?

Definitely not backpacking style! I like comfort, I just don't have the money for comfort :P

I wish you to visit all the places you mention here soon.. Travel is the most eventful thing of this life. I did what you mention here visiting the museums, losten their traditional songs, and my favorite eating their local foods :) So wish you to do it all and I believe you will do it.

I'm not a hippie traveler myself, but going through your list i am glad to say i have been to most of them and even was lucky to spend more than a month in some.

I like my comforts too, but once you are out, it is very easy to refuse it, having in mind the other benefits you are getting. Seeing places, meeting new people, learning new cultures. In that light all the comforts seem to fade away and you promise yourself that next year you are going to travel some place nice, and usually it does not happen as often as you'd like to.

I have never been to South america for example. Yet :)

Hehe I'll be your host if you ever visit Taiwan :)

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind!

No Indonesia on the list??

I also want to visit France someday.
