Sambisari temple is a Hindu temple (Siwa) located in Purwomartani, Kalasan, Sleman, Yogyakarta, about 12 km east of Yogyakarta city towards Solo or about 4 km before Prambanan Temple complex. This temple was built in the 9th century during the reign of king Rakai Garung in the days of the Ancient Mataram Kingdom.

This temple was discovered in 1966 by a farmer in Sambisari Village and restored in 1986 by the Archaeological Service. The name of the village is then immortalized into the name of the temple.

The position of Sambisari temple is 6.5 meters below ground level, most likely due to buried lava from Mount Merapi which erupted on a large scale in the early 11th century (possibly 1006). This can be seen from the many rocks of volcanic material around the temple.

Surrounded by a stone fence with a size of 50 m x 48 m, this complex has a main temple accompanied by three ancillary temples (escort). On the outer wall of the main building there is a niche containing Durga Mahisasuramardini statue (to the north), Ganesha statue (east), Agastya statue (south), and to the west there are two statues of the door-keeper god: Mahakala and Nandiswara. Inside the main temple there is a phallus and yonidengan size large enough. At the time of the excavation found various other objects of which are some pottery, jewelry, metal mirrors, and inscriptions.
