Good morning steemians! I just had the best sleep after a long day at work yesterday. I’m curling under my sheets and thinking about escaping this city for a little while again.
The easiest way to answer this longing is our little island called Samar. Let me tell you something about it.
It’s a 3 hours drive away from the city. My hometown is called Mercedes. I was born and raised there. Next town is Guiuan, it is like my second hometown as my father’s relatives hailed in that place. My family and the rest of the clans and relatives lives either of the two.
It is famous for its white sand beaches. There are a lot, that even I havent visited some of it yet. You can drive around with a car, tricycle, pedicab, or a motorcycle. You can reach the nearest beach in just 5 minutes tops. Palm trees, ocean breeze, relaxing ocean wave sound while sipping fresh coconut juice right from its shell. Best part is that you can visit these places for free or with a minimum entrance fee of 5 Php (0.10 USD)! You can stay for as long as you want.
On the other side, we have rising resorts. Some offers swimming and surfing lessons, infinity pool, fresh seafoods, and villas for overnight stay. You can enjoy all these for atleast 20 USD or more.
We have islands within our little town too! Some of which are Homonhon island (this is where Ferdinand Magellan first landed when he discovered Philippines), Manicani island, Suluan island, Tubabao island, and Calicoan island (Surfing Capital of Visayas). All of which are inhabited. I once visited Pearl island and you can walk around the whole island in less than an hour. You can go on scuba diving or snorkeling. Caves can be a part your itinerary in our place too. Say hello to Linao cave with its cold and clear water inside. Reaching the innermost part can be tricky but I assure you a worthwhile experience.
As a Roman Catholic country, we have our churches too. Sulangan Church is probably the most visited site in our place for religious people. Sundays are the busiest. All the more for holidays such as Christmas, New Year and Holy Week. Pilgrims from all over the country flock to say their thanksgiving, prayers and petitions. Miraculous as it may seem, the church was unharmed during the strongest Typhoon Yolanda considering its location as it is sorrounded by ocean and just a few steps away from the shore.
Hotels around towns, mini bars, cafes and restaurants are slowly developing. One remarkable place offers giant servings of foreign and local cuisines with the ocean view and sunset!
Our people gives warm welcome to each and every local and foreign tourist in our humble town. Talk and mingle with them and you will definitely be offered with fresh seafoods and you can’t say no for sure.
We have been torn and knocked down by the strongest typhoon ever recorded last November 8, 2013. But we stood up, rebuild, and recovered with our resilient heart and smiles.
I am going home this weekend and as always, i’ve never been more excited!
How’s your week going so far steemians?
You have an eye for a picture perfect scenery! I am a big fan of your narratives. Hope to see more of you here on steemit!😊
Thank you!
Thank you so much! I look forward to that! :)
