Travel tips! Best hostels I stayed in during my travels for 4 years! (Haas Picks)

in #travel7 years ago

My blog is all about helping people to travel and connection with people that travel, I posted about how to travel with hardly any money before and today I decided to post about the best hostels I stayed in during my travels for four years.

Hostel 1.png

I am all about hostels where you can connect but don’t like to party to much in order to see more of the country therefore I always research quite a bit before booking a hostel.
Here is my all-time top 7! The list will take you over 4 continents!

YHA The Rocks Sydney Australia
I must say I love all the hostels in this list but this is my absolute favorite in the world, I was able to stay there twice. In total I stayed 14 days spread over several times in this hostel I love so much!
I suggested this hostel to a friend a hardly see or speak to and after I suggested it he send me a message around 5 months later saying that he was never as impressed before!

The hostel is part of the YHA chain in Australia and has very high standards, you can get a membership so you get better rates.

Hostel 3.png
“the view from the balcony, where the host BBQ to”

The hostel has 4 and 6 share rooms but also private rooms, I also used the private rooms once and they are just as perfect!
Just next to the hostel they have a gym and Basketball court and the Rocks area is full off Restaurants and markets.
SO PLEASE PEOPLE STAY HERE WHEN YOU ARE IN SYDNEY! Would love to go again!

“the bunkbed”

Medellin Colombia
I was able to visit Colombia twice and went to different cities, I must say Colombia has a lot to offer and luckily tourists are beginning to see that.
Medellin is very lively and has a lot of international students and people visiting the city, I love the squares with restaurants and bars where it’s fun to hang out.

The hostel I stayed in was located in a street connected to one of those squares, so the fun was just around the corner but the subway only minutes away to discover the city.

My pick in Medellin goes to Hostal Lleras Calle 8 in the El Poblado area.

Hostel 5.png
“just a great basic option, very well located!”

Hostel 6.png
“and a great small garden to enjoy the afternoon”

Central youth hostel Tokyo
My stay in Tokyo was very pleasant because of the hostel I stayed in, will recommend it to everyone, its right next to one of the many Subway stations, and has great restaurant just in the same block.
I must admit is hard to find initially and the Wifi is not the best but its great value for money.
Benefit of staying here is that the hostel is located on the 18th floor within a skyscraper so at night you have a beautiful view over the Skyline.

The beds are maybe a little small but that’s maybe because it’s not build for tall Europeans.

Hostel 8.png
“nice small but clean rooms”

Riad in Marrakech
During my stay in Morocco is went to different cities but the accommodation I enjoyed most was one in Marrakech. Located just next to the famous Djemaa el Fna.
The staff was super friendly and the rooms in great Morrocan style. I stayed when I first arrived in Marrakech and decided to go back before I had to leave the country that’s how much I liked it.
The name; Riad Jnane Mogador! Remember that name when you visit this fun city.

Hostel 9.png
“just a super nice place!”

El Viajero Cali Colombia
The second hostel that made it on the list out of Colombia, the country is just great value for money and most hostel are not that old because tourism is just booming the last decade.
This hostel is probably the most party orientated one on the list, they host dance classes and much more in order to let everybody connect.
It’s a fun city to stay but has less to offer than Medellin if you ask me.

Hi Hostel Chicago
Located in the Loop and very easy assessable I really enjoyed this hostel!

Hostel 13.png

The hostel opened in 2000 and has 500 beds, so you will always meet some nice people, the design is great with big and spacious common areas, so it hardly ever feels crowed!

Hostel 14.png

Personally I don’t know witch city I like better Chicago or New York, that’s how much I enjoyed the week I visited Chicago last year.
Just book your ticket I am sure you will like it.

The Beehive Rome
Rome is just a must see with all the history that the city offers, I stayed at the Beehive in Rome owned by Americans who loved the city so much they decided to live there.
The staff is super friendly and the hostel is located right next to one of the biggest train stations.
But all the mayor sights are walkable as well!

Hostel 15.png
“it all starts with a fun garden to hang out and meet people”

Hostel 16.png

Great rooms!
And as dessert just one of the wonderful sights this city has to offer.

They all look amazing. I've always loved staying in hostels, but it's a bit harder with kids. It would be kind of cool to have family based hostels that had bigger beds and cribs and such. Hmm. That's a good idea.

hahaha we can go into business, know some hostels that are great for kinds.
Thanks for your comment and hope you can travel as much as you can

Ooooh. Id love to see a post on great hostels for kids! We are setting up a home base in Belize right now and will start traveling again soon!

I forgot how much fun hostels can be! The social outlet they provide is priceless & I've met some of my closest friends through staying at hostels during my travels whom I still stay in touch with today :)

Great! Especially I like the one in Marrakech. Very exotic. I like that Islamic patio :D

Nice list! I've stayed at some interesting hostels before. The 'Plus hostel' in Florence was amazing. They had a pool, sauna and gym. The cocktails were amazing and there were live performances on the terrace. The beds were really awesome and the room was super clean.

Yellow nest hostel in Barcelona was my favourite. That was the most fun I ever had. They offered free dinner on the rooftop. Everyone just sat together for dinner. That was a nice bonding experience. You got to know everyone and you just end up going out after that. The pub crawls were amazing too.

will look into those hostels, I am always so happy when i find such a great hostel you really like staying. really makes or breaks your trip

There are some really nice hostels out there! Glad that you enjoy travelling!
