Dear #steemit friends
Hello everyone!
My name is Hector Joachin. In this post I want to tell you everything we can do or visit in the naturally beautiful state of Chiapas in southern Mexico, I would like to be able to cover at least part of what we will see in the capital city Tuxtla Gutierrez and the neighboring magical town Chiapa De Corzo where I will concentrate this substantial tour by the essential tourist attractions of this warm and humid region. I hope you like it and will serve you in case you plan to visit it. Remember that everything described here is based on my personal experience and for you it may be slightly different. Now, let's begin:
The Sumidero Canyon is one of the natural wonders that Mexico has to offer the world. Our adventure begins in Chiapa de corzo, the magical town that gives its name to the state of Chiapas, where the boats leave the jetties that lead you from beginning to end in the Sumidero Canyon, in the center of Chiapa de Corzo we will find the main square where we can see two monuments, the first work is a architecture of The New Spain (Previous name of Mexico or administrative unit of the Spanish colonial empire. ) and the second a work of the divine creation and natural monument Petandra Ceiba's tree.
- “La Pila or The Crown”, is a emblematic historical monument, symbol of the city of Chiapa de Corzo and the state of Chiapas, was built in 1562 in Mudéjar style; La Pila is a building without paragon in Hispanic American colonial art and a golden pinch of Hispano-Arabic art. Inside the building there is a fountain where people throw coins and ask for wishes.
If you pay attention you can realize that the pile or fountain has the form of a crown as a symbol of the monarchy of Charles I of Spain.
- The millenary Pochota or Ceiba Pentandra, it is the oldest tree in size and with greater life time in Chiapas, its height is about 60 meters (196.85 ft.) , around of her the Spaniards founded the first town in the sixteenth century, one of the first Of the continent;
Each village has its tree and each one of them tells us its history.
- Road to Sumidero Canyon
From this point we move some blocks approx. 5 minutes to get to the jetty of Chiapa de Corzo to take the boat that takes us to make the journey through the Sumidero Canyon, I recommend that you wear a hat or cap, a bottle of water and Sunscreen for skin is at all There are some boats have a roof but in them you would miss the magnificent view; At the pier you have to pay a fee of (10.70 $ USD) per person and wait for the boat to be filled to give the ride that lasts approximately 2 hours, once we are ready a bracelet and the lifejacket is placed, we are ready to Enjoy the ride through the Sumidero Canyon.
The gradients of light and heat on the walls and protrusions, geology, flora and fauna.
We are at the entrance of the canyon to the view you can see the Belisario Dominguez Bridge, crossing the Grijalva river just above the mountains of the state of Chiapas communicates to Chiapa de Corzo with Tuxtla Gutierrez.
The Sumidero Canyon is the result of a separation of terrestrial layers caused by a geological fault in the northern mountain range of Chiapas, its walls reach more than 1000 meters (3280.84 ft.) in height, and the emotion that gives you to be here in the middle of its colossal Walls is indescribable, considered as one of the natural wonders of the state of Chiapas is one of the national parks of Mexico, the Sumidero Canyon is so important for Chiapas that its shield is represented by three of the mountains that you can appreciate during the tour , birds, crocodiles, and several waterfalls are observed along the way, so the best time to visit it is during the rainy season, the water fall of the "Christmas Tree" is our favorite point of the tour, let yourself be caressed with its gentle breeze and Enjoys every second in this place, at the end of the canyon is the hydroelectric dam Manuel Moreno Towers better known as Chicoasen an important work of i Engineering that by its magnitude is considered one of the 10 highest of the world, to cross the 84 km (45.3564 nm.) of the Sumidero Canyon in boat is an unforgettable experience and I guarantee that you return more than satisfied of your experience.
Crocodile
The Virgin Cave
Tobácea formation "the Christmas tree"
White Heron
During your journey you can see many species of fauna and rock formations that, if you let your imagination fly, resemble animals, faces, and all kinds of figures.
- Recommendations during your tour
-Don't take off your vest for anything, first for your safety, second because if you see an authority, you will get a fine.
"Please, if you generate debris as you navigate the Canyon, store them in your backpack and throw them in the trash."
-Enjoy first, take photos later.
-When you finish DO NOT remove the bracelet, you may need it later.
After finishing the tour we will walk through the town looking for something rich to eat, until we find a small restaurant where we can try the richest dishes of Chiapa de Corzo, chicken with mole, nugget with tasajo, refried beans and the famous "cochito" Typical dish of the place made with pork, the food here is very tasty I recommend you try the pozol and the tascalate are the most delicious cocoa-based drinks in Chiapas.
The experience in the Sumidero Canyon does not end with the tour by boat, later you can visit the viewpoints of the national park that are to 30 min of the town, that yes you must keep the bracelet that you give in the boat so that you do not pay a extra fee in the viewpoints, you can take a tour or go in your own car, there are 5 viewpoints where you can stop and look at different angles of the canyon, it is worth contemplating the canyon in all its splendor, the fifth viewpoint is in the most High this viewpoint is named "Los Chiapas", here you can see a lot of birds coming from the summit, the view from this point is unforgettable.
- Recommendations for the 5 viewpoints of Sumidero Canyon
Access has a cost of 1.75 $ USD per person, but it is free if you show the bracelet they gave you during the boat ride.
It is worth to stop in each lookout to contemplate for a moment the different angles of this natural wonder, however the 5th viewpoint, which is at the top of the Canyon is the one that has the most impressive view.
At nightfall we can go from Chiapa de Corzo by car or bus to the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, which is only 30 minutes where we will spend the night. There are certainly many options for hotels and some hostels (vary the prices) but I would recommend the Tres Central Hostel for its value for money and for being in a place as its name indicates near the center of the city. Besides that here you can meet people from different countries, mainly from Canada and Europe.
It is a comfortable hostel, according to the expectations of a traveler who wants to spend the night in a place, with shared or individual rooms, a very good place with excellent facilities and the staff is very attentive and friendly, but what stands out is For its cleanliness and comfort.
There is also a bar on the terrace of the hostel, which is highly recommended, always has a great atmosphere. The drinks are the best and the food delicious, it is an excellent place to hang out, great music, excellent for chatting, socializing and playing board games, mixed drinks, very nice view of the city at night, Good place: Comfortable bed, clean bathrooms, clean room, air conditioning, lockers to store your valuable belongings with lock and key security, free parking and free wi-fi internet, computers and printer if you require it.
It is more like a hotel with a hostel price, all for only (8.5 $ USD) per night.
Without doubt the best hostel in Tuxtla.
Hahaha after a long day :p
In the hostel you can contact a tourist cooperative or taxi service for a transport to take you directly to the bus terminal or to the airport, wharves or place you require, you must ask the specific cost for each place.
Chiapas is a natural paradise, which can be admired from the same city of Tuxtla Gutierrez. The landscape that surrounds the city speaks of the great natural wealth that surrounds it and that sprouts in some places of the same capital city.

-Food
The gastronomy that you will find in Chiapas will delight you by the different flavors and textures that your palate will taste. To find cheap places in the city, pass the Belisario Domínguez Boulevard that offers a varied offer of restaurants and places with very accessible prices. You will also find malls in the Moctezuma's area, restaurants, taquerias and places where you can eat rich and cheap. And if you find yourself strolling through the center of the city, you will find food stands, cheap and local places that will offer you the most delicious and typical dishes of the region.
