The problem of disposing of idols reminds me of a Crucifix that was hanging in our garage when we bought our last house (not saying a Crucifix is an "idol"). It wasn't the nicest looking item I'd ever seen so we wanted to remove it. But what would we do with it? Throw it out? I thought that would be disrespectful. So we did the "respectful" thing and kept it there until we sold the house... so the new owners could figure it out. Hence the quotes around "Respectful".
