There would always be places that we held close to our hearts.Memories that never fade with time. One of these life stories is my fabulous time in an island in Southern Leyte called Kalanggaman. In local dialect"langgam""means bird the islands original settlers long before tourist came along. Its funny how "langgam "in this part of the country would mean the winged specie while in a different locality would mean ants.
Anyhow allow me to narrate to you dear Steemians how I arrive in this coral white sandbar by myself with just a backpack .
Every once in a while,on my way to Tacloban my hometown I challenge myself in discovering new routes to arrive at same destination. My reason is to have a good working knowledge just in case the popular way is not feasible as in the case of public holidays where its hard to get a ticket. Also, being frugal I love to explore cheaper routes too.
I took the slow boat that leaves at ten pm from Pier 3 to Palompon Leyte.I arrived there very early so I went to ask around how I can experience the beauty of this island that boast of pristine blue water and white sand beach.Locals told me to arrange with the tourism office and so I did.Luckily ,I was a joiner to a goup that will be leaving in few minutes otherwise Ill have to schedule it for another date as on top of the pricey entrance fee one has to arrange a boat for the group.
So while eating newly baked bread and sipping coffee I walked through the boulevard. The sea was calm and the sunrise reflection on it was delightful to me.I realized beauty can be found anywhere if one just make an effort to do that.
From above picture ,if youre a foreigner just new in my country youd have a vibe what Filipinos are like. They enjoy nature, the companh of love ones and like having a great time even of it means just taking a swim nearby. Also, they love immortalizing themselves be it in a graffiti,or a hand stampes like this similar to the Hollywoods street of stars .
This is our small boat "banca "nothing fancy but it gives you a chance to feel the breeze caress your skin or blow those hair and smell or taste the salty waters when water splashes on you.The trip takes few minutes but not a borinh one because if you are with Filipinos there would always be chattering and laughter wherever you go.
From afar one can see the sandbar and mind you it will blow your breath away. You'd surely find yourself praising that Supreme Being who made this possible .
Becauase the strong typhoon Haiyan had just ravaged the place youd see bent or broken coconut trees. How strong they had withstood such tempest and yet stunning component to this ecosystem would inspire you to make beauty out of ashes as the old book would advise.
The simplicity of the place and the fact that cellular connection is hard here makes this place a beautiful refuge to anyone who wants solitude .One can just listen to the sea's lullaby if she wants to sleep.
As for me I took time to take pictures of myself while we await our sumptous buffet of seafood .
One can camp here fot the night but since the place do not have restroom or electricit me and my group opted to leave in the afternoon .
Before heading home I went to the church to say thanks to a beautiful day.Afterall,it was a stressfree unplanned trip on a budget what more can I ask for.
This Lent this place may be jam packed so I suggest you go there off season to enjoy the place for yourself.
Thanl you for taking time to read my post.I hope you dont feel cheated using your time scanning my post .I love the beach and all I dont care about getting the tan.I am a proud Filipina and i enjoy talking about my beautiful country .So keep posted for more of my mis/adventures as we go along.
Till next post,
Ayn
