@Gonewiththewind :-Chandra Tal translated as Lake of the moon is a lake high in the Himalayan mountain of Spiti Valley, India. The name of the lake originates from its crescent shape. At an Altitude of about 4300 meters (14,100 ft) the air is thin and this lake gives stunning reflections of mountains in the day and in the night when there is no wind one can see the reflection of milky way.
To get to Spiti valley one has to cross the Rohtang Pass, Manali. The mountains there are so high that they don't even let the monsoon clouds get in the spiti valley. Partly due to this reason there is hardly any vegetation in that area.
For most of the year this place is covered in snow. And only from July 1st week to November 1st week people visit this place. Though the best months to visit is September, after the monsoon.
To get here, you can take an overnight semi-sleeper bus from Delhi to Manali. And then take a taxi to Chandra Tal lake. Roads in Spiti valley are rocky so if you are planning to go there by car then make sure you take a SUV or 4 x 4 and your driving skills are good. And take proper rest in this journey because one can develop acute mountain sickness as the altitude is high in that area. A day rest at Koksar or Chattru will be good. There are campsites at Chandra Tal which provide nice food and stay. And also some stories. :)
There will be alot to see in this trip and who know you might see a snow leapard... :)
