Introducing one of Australia's great taste sensations: Vegemite.

This famous and much-loved spread is deployed on toast and bread across Australia daily. A versatile and tasty topping Vegemite adds the taste of Australia to meals across the country. My only real tip for travellers is to GET SOME on their toast. Try it at your hotel breakfast buffet, or throw a bottle, tube or sachet in your backpack, either way. Purchase some immediately on passing through customs so you will have it close by.

Now, it's difficult to explain the taste other to say it's scrumptious and delicious and that you will not be disappointed. Ok, so I'll admit that a lot of international Vegemite virgins hate it. Yep, unbelievable I know, but true. I recall watching an American guest of mine screw his face up in disgust after his first try, but to his credit he came to love it, to become a Vegemite aficionado and henceforth an honorary Aussie. Be like him. Being like him is good.

Below are a few ways in which, over my 47 years of life, I have enjoyed this amazing food.

Spread on hot buttered toast
Spread on hot buttered toast with a poached egg on top
Spread on hot buttered toast and topped with avocado and poached egg
Spread on fresh baked buttered white bread
Combined with cheese on a white bread sandwich

Only a few examples of course and you can see that I am somewhat of a Vegemite purist preferring to deviate only slightly from its core use. Below is a link to some more adventurous uses.

So, I urge you to take to the interweb, google and the other methods of research and find some in your country. You will not be disappointed. Maybe you will. But it will satisfy your curiosity I'm sure.

Important note for Vegemite virgins: Depending on personal taste more is not more. I would recommend the less is more ethos on it initially. Work up to it.
