I will ALWAYS be late but Uber drivers are fairy godfathers #sfo

Steem Fam,

Returning to the states after five weeks in India has been the strangest feeling. Ive only been in san francisco for...get this....two days. And in 48 hours Ive learned 7 life lessons.

Lesson 1: Jetlag is a thing. No one escapes it.

I manage to avoid jetlag for the first 24 hours and literally bragged to a friend about how as a world traveler jet lag had no power over me. I slept SEVENTEEN hours the next day.

Lesson 2: Plan accordingly

In Oakland I was suppose to get another license, see a movie, go dancing, get a hot yoga class in and visit six friends and sunbathe at Lake Merritt.

I saw two people and slept the rest of the time. See lesson 1.

Lesson 3: BE LATE. Lesson 2 is garbage.

I was racing along I-80 on the bay bridge with seven minutes to get to the Mission (dodgy hipster neigborhood) and park my rental and walk eleven blocks to get to the BARt (underground metro) to get to the airport. Needless to say I wasnt gonna make it. But damn if I wasnt going to try.

Lesson 4: Shoot your shot #swish

So I didnt make it. So I missed the last bart. So I wasnt just late but phenomally late. And.... so bloody what??Try. Anyway. We are a generation of people who hate to lose and therefore dont try. WHY??? Do it. Dont be a punk. DO IT!!! The universe will reward your effort. See lesson 4.

Lesson 4: Shortcuts are bad cuts. Long ways make for better stories.

Im hurtling down market street headed to the mission. The BART is long gone but im drifting in my smartcar like i really am gonna make it . Fast forward two hours later Im sitting at a bus stop at the 16th street mission cold af, ignoring hobs and looking at memes on IG. I decide to finally call an uber and get my driver, Ayman.

Ayman, former lawyer, Syrian immigrant of 27 years, father of three is sweet as can be and offers me water for my raging headache. After a videocall from my india fam offers to take me to a casino for a new york steak dinner.

He's like, "Youre not thirsty...youre hungry. Dinner on me sweetheart."

Now yall dont now me but you will. And Im not the type to say no to a free meal. Not today. NOT EVER.

Lesson 5: Respect ya elders

The food was fire but the company was better. Wise and kind, the thing I walked away with from iur convo was, first generation immigrants give up their dreams for the next generation. Its tragic but beautuful. Whoever you are, wherever you maybe, call your folks and thank them. Dont be an ingrate. You are somebody's dream fufilled.

Lesson 6: Live your life

Yolo. Carpem diem. Whatever. Your life is your life. Live it. All of it. All at once.

Lesson 7: Rinse and repeat
