While staying at the Grand Superior Lodge in Two Harbors , Minnesota.
The lodge has a restaurant. While the bartender/server provided good service, the employees at the lodge were friendly, the lodge itself was a disappointment to me.
My friend paid 333.xx for a room with a king bed. The comforter was filthy and covered in pet hair. The rooms seemed to have not been vacuumed. There was a note bandaided to the ac unit. There was 5 channels on the tv, no DVD player and no streaming services and no ability to AirPlay from iPad to the tv.
It was very upsetting. I was more upset about the animal hair all over the bedding. I have allergies to animals and it was a pet free room. But clearly a dirty ass dog was allowed in that room and on that bed.
Not to mention the sanitary issues of a bandaid dangling from the ac unit. My friend hates confrontation and didn’t want to be a bother. I did not realize this and since she paid for the room I stayed quite until I called the office at around 9pm. After dinner, we had picked out two movies from their courtesy library room, we get back to the room and there is no DVD player. Why offer dvds without a DVD player? So I called to ask. They told me some stuff that is exactly what you say to non technologically adept people, the tv does not have streaming services the tv also has no DVD player.
They went on to say because the amenities were not working they would discount the room 60.00 if they are unable to remedy the situation and that’s when they told me how much the room was. I was flabbergasted and appalled and in shock. We hung up the phone and I looked at my friend and said- you paid over 300 dollars for the room?!!! And we have dirty ass blankets?
Hell no.
I grabbed them all up and took them down to the desk and gave them to the staff and he rushed for clean stuff. I just could not believe how dirty the blankets were for paying 333.xx !!
I also brought the bandaid notes to the desk also. Gross!
Mainly this is what I expect from a 50.00 room at motel 6 in the south. Not a 333.00 room at a place that is supposed to be grand.
Now the restaurant, the employees do not seem happy and not very welcoming, but after a bit they warm up. Maybe they have been swamped with a wedding party that was also there? This is possible. The restaurant makes their own Alfredo sauce… it was good but the cooks seem to believe that drowning things in Italian seasoning makes things better? My friend and 2 older ladies at the next table had overly salted items, and they all love salt.
The Swedish meatballs were good but over salted she said.
The other lady had lemon? chicken same opinion.
My friend had surf and turf, with wild rice pilaf basically. It was over salted she said. My Alfredo was fine if they didn’t drown it in Italian seasoning.
It was not too bad of food choices honestly and the food and experience was delightful in the end.
The brownie is to die for.
While eating there was a wedding happening downstairs and we were able to snap a few pics of the chilly experience.
I probably would never stay at the lodge again, it was much to pricey for having dirty blankets that were not just covered in pet hair but also in dirt. And bandaids taped to an AC unit dangling down and un-vacuumed floors…
Bed was comfortable.
