I am Scooter, the Four-Wheeled Cat

in #travel7 years ago

I am Scooter, the Four-Wheeled Cat. I haven't always been four-wheeled, in fact I used to be a regular suburban city cat, doing what city cats do: lazing around, chasing pigeons, eating peas, and fighting neighbour cats.

But it was mostly lazing around.

I'm a British cat by birth, and while I love much Britain (so many pigeons!), there are some things I really don't love. The weather for a start. Actually, it's pretty much just the weather. It seems to be getting worse - wall-to-wall grey dull clouds, dull drizley rain. Whether it's winter or summer, it's the same - wall-to-wall cloud. We hardly get any snow in the winter, and there's hardly any sun in summer. We British have a reputation for constantly banging on about the weather, and it's because the weather is so pathetic. We crave something different - a good snowfall in winter, or a good blast of sun in summer.

It's an interesting fact that Britain buys more convertible cars than almost any other country in the EU. As soon as the sun peeks its head out from the clouds, they pop out of the woodwork along with the sunglasses and bermuda shorts, for their annual outing until the clouds close in again, and we're back to the familar grey skies for another year.

So I decided to go and live somewhere else, somewhere with a good vibe but above all a better climate. Yes I'm shallow, but lazing in the sun is so much better than in the drizzle. But where to go? The UK's climate is the way it is because it's an island in between the Atlantic on one side and the continent of Europe on the other. Moist air is drawn off the Atlantic towards the continent, and when it hits the UK it cools and condenses into clouds. Or something like that - I'm a cat not a metreologist.

I'm used to moving around, having lived in various houses and flats around the English Midlands - I've never lived in one place for much more than 2 years, so a change of scene doesn't phase me. Not sure how I would cope without a home of brick and mortar, I tested the water by going camping for a weekend.

I'm happy to say the experiment was a success and I coped fine. The tent was a bit small, and it got stuffy in there, but there were so many new things to see and do. I went ahead with the next stage of the preparations, and got myself a motorhome.

Onward! I'm off to explore my options, traveling through Europe on the lookout for a new home, where I can be comfortable, happy and warm.
